"Where's Whistler?" Jesse asked a week later, they had received a different DIA agent.
"She won't answer my texts." Lucy shrugged.
Jane walked out of her office with a frustrated look on her face.
"What's wrong?" Jesse asked.
"I just got off the phone with DIA headquarters. Apparently, Kate took another week of vacation time." Jane said while shaking her head.
"Kate doesn't take time off." Lucy said, frowning.
Jane nodded her head in agreement. "So something is going on and I need one of you to figure out what it is."
"But, she's not part of our team, isn't that the DIA's problem." Kai said.
"That's where you're wrong, Kai, Whistler is part of our team. And she's hurting." Jane said calmly.
"I'll look into it. I'm probably the reason she's disappeared." Lucy said quietly, guilt on her face.
Jane turned towards Lucy with a confused frown. "What do you mean, Luce?"
Lucy lowered her gaze. "Her ex showed up. I overreacted and wouldn't hear her out." She whispered.
Sighing softly, Jane placed her hand on Lucy's shoulder. "Then can you please go and try to bring her back?"
Lucy stood up without a word, Jane's hand falling from her shoulder. She grabbed her phone and car keys.

Kate opened the door to her apartment with a frown. "Lucy, what are you doing here?"
"You don't take time off work." Lucy said calmly. "We are worried."
Kate closed her eyes and took a deep breath before stepping back and letting Lucy into her apartment.
"What's going on Kate?... I'm worried." Lucy whispered, her voice small.
Closing the door, Kate led Lucy over to the couch and sat down. "I wanted to do something impulsive after you wouldn't let me explain." She said quietly.
Lucy lingered on her feet. "Impulsive?"
Nodding her head, Kate swallowed thickly. "Yes." She whispered before looking up at Lucy. "I ran into Kai at a bar after our last talk. I was drunk and he took me home. We talked and I told him I wanted to do something impulsive and tried to kiss him." The blonde looked back down at her hands. "He stopped me and then I went to my room and fell asleep and he went home." Swallowing thickly, Kate looked back up at Lucy. "He came back the next day to take me to my car and we talked about what I wanted to do. So when he got off work we were hanging out and I tried to kiss him again. Because what I wanted to do was illegal and dangerous. But he said he had a way for us to do that. I didn't listen because I figured sex with someone else was a safer idea than getting myself killed with my impulsiveness."
Lucy averted her gaze, trying not to feel hurt. She had no right to be hurt, right? But she couldn't stop herself from feeling hurt. She still loved Kate. "Oh."
"Nothing happened." Kate said softly, watching Lucy's reaction. "Kai is way too nice of a guy and didn't want me to make a mistake because I was hurting. But I still have this urge to do something impulsive, so I thought it would be better if I took some time off work." She explained.
Lucy stared at the wall for a long time. "This is my fault." She whispered.
Kate instantly shook her head. "No, it's my fault." She whispered.
"I hurt you." Lucy turned her head to look at Kate.
"I hurt you first, Lucy." Kate said softly, locking eyes with her ex. "If I had told you about Cara, then none of this would have happened."
