One month later

Kate, Lucy, and Kai had a falling out, which left Kate hurting and looking into transferring to the BAU. But there was just one problem, she hadn't been feeling well for a while, and her period was late. Now she was waiting on the results of a pregnancy test. One line, that's all Kate needed to appear. Then she could put what had happened behind her. Instead, two pink lines appeared, and dread filled her entire body. This was something she wouldn't be able to hide, especially in a few months. Frustration filled her and she threw the test against the wall, this had just complicated things even more.

Sliding down the wall, Kate burst into tears. She was going to choose Lucy, but the brunette had pushed her away. Then Kai realized that Kate was going to choose Lucy and ended things. She was completely and utterly alone and pregnant. She didn't really understand what she'd done to make Lucy push her away.

Covering her face with her hands, Kate sobbed softly as she realized how alone she was. She pulled her knees up to her chest, trying to make herself as small as possible so she could just disappear. She wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole.

She must've sat on the bathroom floor for a long time, because next thing she knew her phone was ringing. She wiped her face and sniffed, taking a deep breath, before grabbing her phone. "Whistler."

"Kate, we've got a case and we need your help." Jane's voice came from the other side of the phone.

Clearing her throat, Kate released a slow breath. "I'll be there as soon as I can."

"See you soon," Jane said, ending the call.

Closing her eyes, Kate forced herself to get up and get changed. Before she knew it, she was walking into the bullpen with a completely blank face. She could already feel the tension between Kai and Lucy who were standing as far apart as possible.

"Whistler, you're here. Let's get you up to-" Jane trailed off as she looked at the blonde. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Kate mumbled immediately.

Jane narrowed her eyes suspiciously at Kate.

"You said you have a case." Kate said calmly, wrapping her arms around her waist.

Jane nodded. "We do."

Clearing her throat, Kate nodded her head. "What do you need?"

Jane went into the explanation of the case.

The blonde nodded her head as she listened to Jane. "Okay, what do you need from me? This sounds like a regular NCIS case." She suspected that Jane had an ulterior motive for having her here.

"I need you to go undercover with Lucy." Jane said calmly.

Kate's eyes instantly widened. "You what?"

Lucy stared at her boss with wide eyes.

"I need you and Lucy to go undercover as newlyweds." Jane said calmly, leaning back against Jesse's desk.

"Why us?" Kate asked, frowning. She didn't miss the brief hurt that flashed across Lucy's face.

Jane sighed softly and ran a hand through her hair. "Because each of our victims were in a same sex relationship."

Kate took a deep breath and looked down. "How long?"

"Could be a couple of months, I'm not sure yet." Jane said.

Lucy leaned back against her desk, lowering her eyes to the floor.

Kate cleared her throat and looked up at Jane. "I don't know if I should do this."
