"Kate." Kai said quietly as he joined the blonde on the couch. It was the weekend and Lucy was out with Jesse and his family for the day.
The blonde lifted her head and looked at him. "Yes?" She asked.
Kai took a deep breath and turned to face her. "Why did you choose Lucy?" He asked quietly.
Kate stared at him, frowning.
"I just, I thought we had something, and then you chose her. When she would barely even talk to you after you got shot." Kai swallowed thickly and rubbed the back of his neck. "I was there for you during physical therapy, I was there through every painful moment. And she wasn't, but you chose her."
"And I appreciate everything you did for me but I love her." Kate said.
Kai looked down and swallowed thickly. "We could be a family. You, me, Malia."
"Lucy, Malia, and I are a family." Kate said. "You can still be her dad. When she gets to know you better, she can stay with you."
Shaking his head, Kai shifted closer to Kate. "And what happens when Lucy decides this isn't what she wants?"
"She won't." Kate said, shaking her head.
Kai moved even closer and cupped Kate's cheek. "Kate, please. I miss you."
Kate pulled back. "I'm with Lucy."
Swallowing thickly, Kai searched her eyes. "I miss you."
"You said that already." Kate said, leaning back.
Kai followed her, cupping the back of her neck. "Please." He whispered before leaning in and kissing her.
The blonde couldn't help it as her eyes fluttered closed and she returned the kiss briefly before pulling back. "Kai..."
Kai searched her eyes.
"Kai, we can't do this. I'm with Lucy." Kate said, standing up.
Standing up with her, Kai stepped closer. "You kissed me back."
Kate closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I'm with Lucy." She stepped back again. "This. Us. It's over."
"It doesn't have to be, Kate." Kai mumbled, stepping closer and grabbing her hips. "We don't have to be over and nobody has to know."
"Kai, stop. I won't, I can't. It can't happen." Kate said, pulling away from him. "We are over."
Shaking his head, Kai stepped back and ran a hand through his hair. "So you're willing to throw this away for her?"
"For the woman I love." Kate snapped.
"You love me too!" Kai snapped back, stepping closer to Kate. "But now because she suddenly wants you again, you're going to throw it all away."
"Kai, just forget about us. She's who I want." Kate snapped, moving away, shaking her head. "I think you should go."
Kai shook his head and followed Kate until her back was against the wall. He placed his hands on either side of her. "Why are you denying this? I can see it in your eyes." He whispered, pressing his body against her's.
Kate closed her eyes, keeping her hands flat against the wall. "I'm not going to cheat on Lucy with you." She breathed out, turning her head away.
"Kate please. I love-"
"No! Kai, please, just leave." Kate said, pushing him back.
Kai shook his head and gripped her hands, holding them above her head. "Stop pushing me away." He whispered before crashing their lips together in a rough kiss.
