"Ouch." Kate mumbled, sitting up and holding a hand to her head. She'd woken with a start and fallen off the cot. She squeezed her eyes closed with a groan.

Lucy sat up from her own cot. "You okay?"

Humming softly, Kate rubbed the back of her head. "What was that sound?"

"What sound?" Lucy asked, sliding off of her cot to sit on the floor beside Kate. She hadn't been asleep but she also hadn't heard anything.

The blonde frowned and looked up at Lucy. "You didn't hear it? It sounded like a gunshot."

Lucy shook her head. "Must have just been in your dream and it startled you enough to wake you." Lucy said with a half hearted shrug, leaning back against the cot. She brought her knees up against her chest and rested her chin on them, her eyes focused on the floor.

"Are you okay?" Kate asked quietly, watching her.

"I don't know." Lucy murmured quietly. "But you've got bigger things to be worrying about than me."

Kate instantly shook her head and moved closer to Lucy. "Nothing will ever be more important than you."

"I think the fact that you're being targeted is more important than me." Lucy said dryly.

Kate frowned and reached for Lucy's hand, gently squeezing it. "You are important to me."

Lucy let her head fall to the side onto Kate's shoulder. She just seemed defeated. "You could be killed."

"I will always fight to come back to you." Kate whispered softly, leaning her head against Lucy's.

Lucy let out a soft breath and closed her eyes for a long moment.

"What was that?" Kate asked suddenly, lifting her head from Lucy's.

Lucy lifted her head slowly and looked around. "Nothing." She said after a moment.

Kate frowned and looked over at Lucy. "You didn't see that? By the bullpen doors?"

"You're freaking yourself out, there's nothing there. This place is secure." Lucy murmured, dropping her eyes to the floor again.

Swallowing thickly, Kate slowly nodded her head. "Maybe you're right." She mumbled, looking away from the doors.

"You rarely back down that quick. Who are you and what have you done with Kate?" Lucy murmured. But instead of looking up at Kate and giving her a smile. Lucy kept her head down. Lucy seemed to have lost a bit of her fight, the spunk that made her Lucy. Kate wasn't sure if it was because of the situation with Kai or if it was something deeper, like from when she got injured in the field while Kate was away. Lucy hadn't talked about it much.

Kate shrugged and released a soft sigh. "I could ask you the same thing, Luce."

Lucy let out a soft breath. "I'm still me."

"But you're not." Kate mumbled softly, leaning her head back against the desk. "Is it because of the injury? Because I left? Because of things with Kai."

"It's not because of you." Lucy breathed. "Or Kai." She bit her lower lip but didn't continue.

Kate turned her head to look at Lucy. "Then what's going on, Luce?"

Lucy didn't look at her. She took one of Kate's hands and guided it under her shirt. She found the spot she was looking for then pressed Kate's fingers to the rough patch of skin on her abdomen, a scar.

Swallowing thickly, Kate moved even closer and gently ran her fingers over the scar. "Is this from..." She trailed off.

Lucy nodded her head. "A knife." She said vaguely.
