Sirius looked up as the door to his cell opened. His eyes narrowed as the bright light shone through.
"Black," the Auror standing there called before walking over to him. "In light of new evidence brought forward to the court, it has come to our attention that you have been falsely accused of the murder of one James and Lily Potter and that one, Peter Pettigrew, was responsible. You are here now, a freeman," The Auror said, and Sirius scoffed.
He'd been telling them for eighteen years that he was innocent, and now, finally, they found the truth. Now, they realize their mistakes.
"In an effort to help you get back on your feet after this, you are given $10,000 galleons and a mental check-up at Saint Mungo to see a mind healer to reverse the effect that the dementors had on you," The Auror continued.
Sirius fought the urge to roll his eyes, and the dementors didn't have much of an effect on him since he had stayed in his animagus form for most of the sixteen years.
An Auror came forward and helped Sirius to his feet. He was led out of the cell and down the corridor. He moved slowly and unsteadily, seeing as he was barely skin and bones and hadn't walked much except for pacing back and forth in his cell until his feet hurt.
He was led to the edge of the prison, where the door opened to the outside. They exited the prison, and the Auror took him to Saint Mungo.
Once there, the Auror stayed with him until he was checked and his mind healed. Then, they took him back to the court. They led him to an office and sat him in a chair in front of Aurora Amelia Bones and a goblin.
"Mr. Black, I would like to formally apologize on behalf of the wizarding community for imprisoning you wrongfully and without a fair trial," Amelia said. Sirius just nodded, looking at the goblin.
"This Goblin is here today to help you sort out everything that will help you become a part of society again," Amelia said, and the goblin stepped forward.
"Mr. Black, since you were imprisoned, your title as Lord Black was taken and passed to your next kin. In this case, that was the child of Lily and James Potter, Harry Potter, which you are the Godfather of," the goblin said, and Sirius frowned.
"Lily and James didn't have a child," He stated, and the Goblin paused, looking Confused, as did Amelia.
"I understand that some damage was done to your brain, so you might not remember that three months before the attack, Lily Potter gave birth to their son; you were at their house the night of the attack by he-who-shall-not-be-named," Amelia said, and Sirius shook his head.
"No," Sirius shook his head again, "Lilly was five months pregnant the night of the attack, I remember it clearly. My baby and I went there to spend time with them. Because we hadn't seen them much since I gave birth three months before and was ill for a while after, it was my baby in that house," Sirius told them, and the two Aurors in the room looked shocked.
"I think we should get Mr. Potter here for an inheritance test," Amelia said, and the other Auror nodded before disappearing.
