As I stirred from my slumber, the faint sounds outside my bedroom door roused me from sleep. Blinking away the remnants of drowsiness, I reached for my phone to check the time—7:30 in the morning. A groggy realization washed over me as I recalled arriving at my parents' house late last night, weary from the day's journey and eager to sink into bed. I had taken leave for two days, originally planning to be here for my engagement on Saturday and return to work on Monday. However, fate granted me an unexpected extension, offering leave for Monday and Tuesday instead. It seemed I had arrived just in time for my own engagement. With a deep breath, I pushed aside any lingering fatigue and prepared myself to embrace the day ahead.

Stepping out of my room, I was greeted by the bustling energy of my relatives, all busy preparing themselves for the engagement ceremony. Everyone added final touches to their attire and some gossiping. Along the way, I paused to exchange greetings and catch up with my uncles, aunts, and cousins.

I finally my mom and dad talking about something in the bedroom, As I entered, I heard them talking something about the money they needed today

"Devu, you haven't bathed yet?" mom asked as soon as she noticed me in the room, I shook my head as I walked to them, my mother lovingly caressed me

"Go and bath devu, or else we will get let for your engagement" mom said and I nodded

"Do you need money today dad, I can go and draw the money from the ATM now?" I said, not wanting Dad to take the burden of my marriage expenses.

"No, we have enough for now. We need it for the wedding, so save it for later. Now I can take care of this function" Dad said smiling, yeah wedding expenses would be more. And would be best if I take those expenses upon

"Now go, get ready," Mom said pushing me towards the door, I smiled and walked away after kissing her.

I got out of the car as we reached Manasa's house. It's been a long that I came here the last time.

"Not so long, it was just 3 weeks back" a voice whispered inside my head

I shook my head and looked around to see my parents getting out of the car , along with my close relatives who had come along with us.

We were welcomed by my to-be father-in-law, who shook his hands with my father as he asked about my father's well well-being and then greeted my mother with a namaste which my mother returned with a smile. And he then came forward to me and patted my shoulder

"How are you dev?" he asked with affection in his voice

"Good, Uncle. How are you?" I replied with a smile

"Too good beta, come inside," he said as he led us inside the house. The engagement is going to be conducted in my fiancé's house, they set up the stage outside their house, and to say they went a little extravagant in the decoration of the place I guess.

As my family walked into Manasa's house we saw the crowd in their living room, maybe their relatives. Dhanush's uncle made space for us to sit

"Please have a seat," he said as he guided my parents on the sofa, which was just vacated by the youngsters of their family.
