Manasa POV
I sat among the ladies from both families, listening to my soon-to-be mother-in-law introduce me to everyone. Smiling, I greeted each person, though I couldn't help but wonder how I'd remember all these relations. Even with distant relatives, I often struggled to recall our connection despite seeing them at countless family gatherings. It was dawning on me that soon I'd have to take on the responsibility of maintaining these relationships, a new aspect of adulthood that I was slowly grasping.
As the ladies chattered on about an absent aunt, I found myself scanning the room. That's when I noticed a pair of light brown eyes fixed on me. The man behind those eyes seemed like he had something to ask. How long had he been there?
Raising an eyebrow in question, I waited for him to speak. He glanced around before showing me his phone and then at me. My phone? Why did he want it? I looked around for my mobile and Spotting my phone nearby, I picked it up and showed it to him. His vigorous nodding confused me further. What does he mean? Did he want my phone?
Perplexed, I gestured for clarification. He pointed at his phone again, then brought it close to his ear, as if making a call. Me being a dumb ass I repeated his gesture and he facepalmed himself too cutely aww my baby. It was oddly endearing, but wait, When did he become my baby?
He began showing me numbers with his fingers. What did that mean? As I tried to understand his silent communication, my uncle passed by dev and he at once kept his phone near his ear and pretended as if he was on a call. When my uncle went away he again looked at me and I laughed silently seeing his overacting, seeing me laughing he rubbed behind his neck looking down as if he was embarrassed and he looked so cute.
He again pointed at phone , what does he actually want?
"He wants your phone number" I jumped at once hearing someone wishpering it to me, I looked to myside to see my sister Srishti looking at me with an expression saying you-are-so-dumb
From when she was seeing us? I turned to look at Dev and he seemed to be giggling seeing us, I glared at him and he stopped smiling, and then I realized what I did! I glared at him!! Stupid me. I looked at him and he smiled at me sweetly as if saying sorry, I sighed in relief.
"phone number?" I mouthed a look at him and he nodded a yes, The moment I understood that Dev was asking for my phone number, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. His smile was so charming, and even though he was trying to talk to me in a bit of a clumsy way, it made my heart beat faster. It's like when you're about to go on a rollercoaster – you're excited, but you also feel a bit jittery.
With everyone engrossed in their own conversations, I glanced back at him. Holding up six fingers, I signaled the first digit of my phone number. He swiftly unlocked his phone, typing something before looking back at me, silently urging me to continue. Showing three fingers next, he entered the digit without hesitation. In this manner, we exchanged the numbers until I completed giving mine.
As soon as I finished, I noticed my phone flashing with an unknown number. Glancing at Dev, he showed his phone and then pointed at himself. It was his number. A smile crept onto my lips, feeling a rush of excitement at this silent exchange. I immediately saved his number as Devu ❤️ with a red heart. As I was his contact in my phone I smiled as a kid who just got a candy.
I couldn't resist the urge to send a message to Dev. With shaky fingers,
Me: Hi 😊
Seconds felt like an eternity as I waited for a response. Finally, a notification popped up on my screen, and my heart skipped a beat as I read his reply
