Mr. O'brien, as I predicted, is a problem. He teaches Calculus, and during class he keeps getting pissed at students for no reason at all. He blames all the problems on a few targeted students. And one of his targets - Kaveh.

"Kaveh, are you listening?" He shouts at the blonde. I turn and look at him to see him zoning out at the window.

"Kaveh," I whisper to him, "The teacher's calling you."

O'brien stomps to where our desks are, "Kaveh!" He spits, slamming his hand on Kaveh's desk. Kaveh startles, jumping and turning his head abruptly.

"Yes?" He says.

"I need you to focus in class. You already get shit grades."

Kaveh lowers his gaze, "Okay."

O'brien lifts his chin, "I am fully capable of failing this class for you, you know that?"

"Yes, sir."

"That's what I thought."

As if to show off his rank, O'brien walks back to the board only to throw his chalk, aiming at Kaveh. The chalk hits Kaveh's cheek, it falls down on his lap, leaving white stain. Kaveh keeps his head low, not saying anything.

O'brien lets out a hmph, satisfied. I turn and quickly rub off the chalk stain on his cheek, and pick up the chalk to put it on his desk. The part where he was hit is red and burning, my heart aches.

"Are you okay?" I whisper to him. He nods, lifting his head again to focus on class.

"Does he always treat you this way?" I ask, worried.

Kaveh nods again, blinking.

I want to say something. Something that will help him feel better, I open my mouth to tell him something. Something. Anything, but no words came out. Not even a It'll be okay soon, because I know that's a lie. So I close my mouth again, turning back to face the front of the class, to listen and study.

Guilt burns in my stomach. No wonder Kaveh hates me so much.

After Calculus is our elective. We leave the classroom, Kaveh leaves for Architecture. I find my way to Literature, in room 584. In the class, I am seated next to a girl named Keqing. She has heather shaded hair, tied into two high ponytails. They're also styled to look like cat ears. Her eyes are more of a magenta shade of purple. She's from Liyue.

She doesn't try to communicate with me, focusing profusely in class. The teacher, Miss. Holloway, treats us nicely. Or perhaps I just find her nice compared to how O'brien treated us.

It feels strange without Kaveh by my side. Though it has only been 2 days, Kaveh is always beside me, no matter if it's during class, in our dorms, or during lunch. I know he hates me, but he lets me follow him regardless.

After Humanism is Phys. Ed., Kaveh and I meet up again. Strangely, I feel a sense of safety when I see him. We bicker for a few minutes, but when we begin changing, Kaveh falls incredibly silent.

I take off my uniform and shuffle around my changing room locker trying to find my shirt.

"It's on your backpack," Kaveh tells me. I look up to thank him, his gaze looms over my chest, avoiding eye contact with me. I chuckle at him, turning around to put my shirt on.

He looks away, slightly flustered.

Wanting to say something, something to tease him about his flustered expression, but then he pulls off his shirt as well, so I turn away and don't say anything.
