8. Mine

August 1st 1987

I spent the reminder of the month with Prince on his tour and we almost slept together once...shocking right?

Kidding.

I saw sides of Prince that I've never seen before I've seen him be bossy, angry, sassy, and eager within a few weeks it was cool to see him in his element on a deeper level.

I met Shelia E she's truly a sweetheart but she did treat me like a baby a few times which made me wanna show her who I can really be in a violent way but I didn't touch her I just checked her a few times I just knew she had feelings for him.

My only problem is this whole thing could give the wrong idea I didn't wanna give him what he wanted which was sex just for him to drop me like I was nothing. And it didn't take much for him to lose interest. Once he was done with you it could be harsh, but he was also in his own way a gentleman.

Do I feel like he's leading me and Sheila on of course hell he was leading his own fiancée on, but who am I to judge. When Prince wanted to work with somebody especially a woman he was attracted to he took whatever steps were necessary to make it  happen, mixing business with pleasure was the whole point I just know his game I could just never get played like Sheila has. She was in love with him you could tell from the way she looked at him, the way she swoons every time he walks in the room she was in love with him but he wasn't with her.

Today Prince convinced me to stay with him in Minnesota for the night before leaving I don't know why but I agreed.

"Okay...Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder?" I asked. He scrunched his face up in a "what are you talking about" kinda way "okay yeah compare the two blind men in the game"

"Im serious...if you ask me I say Stevie". He thought for a moment " Stevie without a doubt back then I used him as a role model in trying to play all the Instruments."

What an Instrumental nerd. "Aw hes your role model. Whats your favorite song by him?" I laid my head on the top cushion on the couch."I don't think I have one" he said. "Well I do... As is such a beautiful song to me"

I started smiling and singing the first part of the song softly moving my hands around to fit the lyric I was singing "As around the sun the earth knows shes revolvinggg and the rosebuds know to bloom in early maaayy just as hate knows loves the cureeee you can rest your mind assure that ill be loving you alwaaayyyss"

He smiled at me "You can sing" I stayed silent I don't know if he's saying that in shock or just stating the obvious. "I mean soulfully but you don't show it in your songs...what I've heard right now was beautiful but you don't showcase it. Why?"

I shrugged "uh it never really fit in with the instrumentals I can't sing nasty like im straight out a church choir. And I have shown it I sang my ass off in Melody"

"One song."

"No no" I sat up "Melody, Wake up, Heartbreak, Pleasure Principle, and Hooked on you got my best. This just shows you didn't listen to my album."

Melody and Wake up got the best runs out of the whole album that nigga is tripping. "I did listen Im just saying what I heard right now was mesmerizing. It was better than any record you've put out so far and I feel like you should show it more your range is amazing I just wanna hear it more"

I laughed "This whole thing is bizarre. Im famous for my singing. I have videos on MTV playing on a rotation like I just... I don't know I can't believe this is my life."
