5. Welcome to 1987

January 26 1987, American Music Awards

My heart raced I was nervous as hell. "And the winner for Favorite Soul/R&B song is....Nasty Diamond Monroe!"

The crowd cheered I was shocked.

I stepped on stage and they gave me my award I stood there smiling as the crowd clapped and whistled now that was new. "This...this is really wonderful" they cheered more "first of all I'd like to thank John McClain, I'd like to thank my parents, A&M Records, God because without him none of this would be possible, uh Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and all of you" I held up the award "thank you"

I won my first big award ahh. My speech was shit but I was scared leave me alone. Plus I had just preformed Control minutes prior.

The next award I won was Favorite soul/R&B female video artist which may I say I won over Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner. In total I got 7 nominations and 2 wins.

Once the awards were over and I did my interviews and took pictures with my awards I made my way to find New edition to congratulate the group and my friend. Once I found them I stood behind them smiling they qwere ecstatic about their win.

"Ahhh"

They turned around confused until they saw me "Diamond" Ralph said, he smiled and hugged me. "Congratulations guys...aw I'm so proud of you guys" after hugging everyone I hugged Ronnie and kissed his cheek "you did good" I whispered in his ear. On stage he looked like he was getting emotional which is understandable this is a big deal for them. They won Favorite Soul/ R&B Band/Duo/Group.

"Thank you L" he smiled at me softly and I did the same to him. "We should be congratulating you with your two awards...you deserve em you definitely have been working hard" Ricky looked at me with a huge smile you could tell he was happy. I pretended to bow "well I'm glad you noticed cause I'm really the shit" we laughed a little. I glanced over and saw Prince staring at me "uh I'll be right back" I hugged Ronnie one last time and walked over to him.

He smiled once he saw me walking toward him "hello" I calmly said

"Hm how did it feel?"

I tilted my head confused he spoke again smiling "winning an ama"

"Well it felt good to win against you" I smiled cockily.

"Ah don't get too cocky...your grandparents here?"

"Uh no it's just me and my siblings they came to support me."

"Good good come with me." He smirked grabbing my hand and dragging me away. I saw Danielle mouth "where you going"

I mouthed back "I don't know." He dragged me out the building saying bye to people. He then opened the door to his limo and smiled as I got inside, he sat next to me smirking "so"

"Prince"

"Yes beautiful?" Oh please help me. Anything could happen at this point I had a boyfriend but Prince didn't care when he wanted something he was going to get it I can't promise anything at this point. "How are you?" He looked at if he was observing my facial expressions "What are doing Roger?"
