April 5th 1989

I coughed grabbing the tea cup "she's fucked me over mommy."

"Language. She was just trying to get you to have fun."

"By having me sing my whole discography!" The more I spoke the raspier my voice got and the sorer my throat was.

"Well with all the yelling and singing you were doing on your own you are just to blame like she is. Now hush and drink."

I rolled my eyes and drank. The party was fun and don't get me wrong I mean she outdid herself but im dying. My throat is so sore. I sound like I've been smoking cigarettes for 17 years.

I huffed handing her the empty cup "I was set up."

"Little girl." She warned.

"Mommy she knew what she was..." I was cut off with a cough. "She set me up."

"Your grandmother did not set you up she wanted you to have fun."

I pouted at her. I was set the fuck up I don't care. She invited half the music industry with so many performances including mine and now look. Ive screamed so many songs that night and now two days later I still can't talk right.

"Stop talking you're gonna ruin your voice more. I'll be back." She got up taking the tray with her and walking out of the room she close the door to my room softly. I sighed loudly looking the room.

I can't talk, I can't sing, I can't live. I should've just shut my ass up.

This would be such a perfect time for my phone to ring but its not like I can speak. I huffed getting up and snatching the blanket from my bed and wrapping it around me and heading downstairs.

"And no one thought it would be a good idea to tell me?" I heard my dad talk as I got closer to the kitchen he sounded angry.

"She didn't want to tell you Kevion. That was her choice all I did was respect it." I could hear ceramic clinking against each other.

"I had a right to know something like this."

"Know what?" I said. They both looked at me my father did nothing but exhale removing his glasses and throwing them in the kitchen island.

"I thought I told you to rest." She never looked up she was too busy mixing honey in the tea.

I shrugged "I was bored. What are you guys talking about."

"Prince called." My mom said.

Oh shit.

I immediately froze looking at my dad.

"I just...everyone knew but me. You should've stopped it."

She dropped the spoon against the cups rim "What was I supposed to do Kevion? Stop our adult daughter from dating another adult? You...we do not make choices for her anymore."

He put a hand on his hip "You could've told me."

"Can we stop talking about me like I'm not standing right here? Please? You can't put the blame on mom for respecting what I do."

He turned to me. His eyes followed me as I walked closer to my mom.

"Okay. So why didn't you tell me? You told your siblings, your mom, I mean who else did you tell?"

"I told grandma and grandpa."

"Oh great my own parents are keeping things about my own child from me."

"Daddy I'm not a child."

"You were when this happened between him."

I sighed placing my hands on the island and looking down at it. I see my mother told him everything.
