13. Limits

I sat on the couch grabbing the remote off the table and turning it on.

She stepped in front of me snatching the remote and turning the tv off. "You can't just ignore what happened." She said.

"Yes yes I can."

"No you will not that was beyond disrespectful."

"It doesn't matter."

She walked in front of the tv blocking my view "why are you so calm about this?"

"Because what happened, happened. I don't know what you want me to do, getting upset isn't gonna change anything and im not gonna fight an old lady because then ill go jail it'll get out and my reputation will be screwed. The best thing I can do right now is ignore it. She said she didn't mean anything by it."

She scoffed "please and you believe that? That woman is a racist."

"I don't know why you guys are making a big fuss."

"No I don't know why you aren't making a big fuss."

I rolled my eyes. The best thing for me is to just be calm Im aware of what happened but I know me and I know if I get angry enough im gonna act on it and I have too much to lose right now. I heard the door slam open hearing multiple voices fill the house up. I turned around seeing every damn sibling plus my grandparents parents both of them and my parents. I got up walking around the couch,

"What the fuck is this a family reunion?" I said to Dana.

"Oh baby." My mom damn near tackled me trying to hug me. I couldn't hug back my arms were trapped to my side.

"Why are y'all acting like I got robbed or something?"

"You did." My idiotic brother Chris said

"No I didn't. Was bringing big mama and pawpaw really necessary?"

"Yes!"

"Nooo! Jesus can we please let it go?"

"That's not something you let go L." Isaac said. I glared at him until he hid behind Kj.

"I understand the anger you might be feeling but this right here is unnecessary im not gonna sit up here and stress myself out because a white woman was out of line. She's not the first and she won't be the last get over it please." I heard the door open again thinking it was another family member but it was Jacklyn. She looked at everyone smiling shyly.

"Excuse me you have no right walking up in here." My grandma blocked her way.

"Grandma stop she's fine." I said irritated.

"Uh im so sorry about my mother. Ive never seen her act so badly before." She looked at the multiple faces but she wasn't talking to them. She was talking to me. Her eyes just met with everyone else.

"Its fi-"

"She was out of line!"

"Grandma! We all understand what she did was wrong but Jacklyn didn't do anything for you to snap at her."

"She should've defended you!"

"She didn't even know what happened until I repeated what was said! Leave it alone! Do not go to that woman's house, do not attack her daughter, do not tell people about this, and forget it happened. I will not let you guys fuck up what I have going on because your hurt over a white woman acting like a white woman!"

"No no no let's not forget how you two weren't as fond of black people either. You acted just as they did!"
