Zero's persistence was irritating Kaname.

Kaname was already in a bad mood today, but overhearing Mizuki and Zero upset him. He was always suspicious about the two's past relationship and last night hinted at that when Zero said something about the relationship he shared with Mizuki. Now, he was sure what they once were.

It made him angry that this boy had experienced something he had been yearning for the day he met Mizuki.

"To be honest," Kaname said, speaking up so Mizuki and Zero could hear him. "Vampires who were formerly humans shouldn't exist at all."

Zero noticeably became troubled by his words.

"But, centuries ago, there was a time when vampires and vampire hunters grew most violent," Kaname continued. "Many humans forcefully turned into vampires for military power. Ever since that wrong we have committed, it became the duty of the Aristocrat vampires to oversee the vampires that were once human." Kaname then grabbed Yuki's arm gently, undoing her cufflinks to pull up her sleeve, revealing the band-aid on Yuki's arm. "And sometimes those duties mean ending a level E's life for another's safety."

"K-Kaname, what are you...?"

Kaname reached to take off the band-aid.

"This must be your injury of today," he said. "Hold still, I'll ease the pain."

Mizuki was already a step ahead of him. Her speed to get to them was unseen, and Kaname was a bit taken aback when she grabbed his wrist and yanked it away from Yuki. Mizuki stared down at him, and he looked up at her.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing, Kuran?" she hissed, venom in her words.

A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "Protective as always, Mizuki."

"You think you could just do whatever you want? Touch her again and I'll teach you a lesson in front of your loyal subjects," she said. "Got it?"

"Understood," Kaname said, letting go of Yuki.

Mizuki huffed at him, annoyed that he would try doing such a thing. She knelt to fix Yuki's sleeve.

"It's the vampire hunter's job to kill level E vampires, not vampires," Zero said, standing up from the patio's rail, his hands in his pockets. "You all call it your duty, but we all know it's for sport."

Kaname stared up at Zero. "Then why didn't you kill that level E when you had the chance? Or the one outside that old church?"

Zero flinched in surprise, wondering how he knew that. That day in town, he hesitated to kill a level E vampire attracted to the commotion. He was ready to pull the trigger, but he pulled his gun away. He didn't think anyone, especially Kaname, had noticed his moment of weakness.

"Did you sympathize with her?"

Suddenly, Zero took out his gun, pointing it at Kaname's head. Mizuki quickly took Hades and put it against Siren's neck. The very quiet vampire who was always in Kaname's vicinity, whether you saw her or not, was already in a position to attack Zero if he were to pull the trigger. Mizuki was ready as well, prepared to decapitate Siren if she were to lay a finger on Zero.

"Guys, no!" Yuki shouted, trying to get everyone to calm down, but no one was backing down. The other vampires were rowdy and ready to jump in at any moment to defend Kaname.

Although Kaname was happy that he had bothered Zero, he forgot that Mizuki was always ready to kill for her loved ones if she had to. Curiously enough, she didn't realize that she had grabbed Zero's arm and had it pushed away so Zero wasn't aiming his weapon at him.
