Halloween approached like lightning.
Gabriella was tired from her night of decorating her siblings' costumes for them. Aubrianna had saved up enough pocket money to buy the materials for a Dorothy from Wizard of Oz costume. Gabriella had spent the last two weeks sewing between pumpkin carving and house decorating. Maximilan had decided to buy a dinosaur onesie, claiming he just wanted to be comfy and warm.
The family of three started the day off slowly, eating breakfast and sluggishly getting into Gabriella's car. She'd organised Mrs Hancock to take the two kids trick or treating while she worked and the woman was happy to help, planning to take them with her kids and allowing them to spend the night. Gabby dropped the kids at school and their bags at the Hancock residence before approaching work.
She walked in slowly, people in costumes in the carpark jumping out from behind cars to attempt to scare the girl who never flinched. She just sighed irritably, eating a granola bar she'd grabbed on her way out of the house that morning.
"Cardio magnet!" someone called, cutting Gabriella off from entering the building.
Gabriella looked to find Cristina Yang in front of her, in casual clothes, "Uh, hey?"
"Hi, I'll give you first dibs on a new apartment if you tell me about a cardio case before Alex in the future," she bargained, causing Gabriella to smile.
"I own a house," Gabby revealed, and Cristina's eyes widened, "But I'll page you the next time I have one if Dr Karev doesn't respond."
"Uh, thank you!" Cristina exclaimed as Gabriella began to walk off and Meredith appeared beside her with a bag of her mum's ashes, "She's my favourite intern," Cristina told her best friend, "Why'd demon spawn get the good one."
"Isn't she friends with Lexie?" Meredith asked for clarification.
"Yes, but she's also a cardio magnet and I want her brain," Dr Yang declared as she and Meredith began approaching the changing rooms, "So, that's your mum, huh?"
"Yep," Meredith confirmed, "Do you think it's morbid?"
"Nope," Cristina shook her head, "Just make sure junkies don't mistake her for drugs," she joked seriously.
Meredith let out an incredulous laugh as the two walked off.
Gabriella was charting when Dr Shepherd grabbed her arm and pulled her along with a little kid behind him, "Dr Shepherd, why are you dragging me?" Gabby asked before turning to the kid, "Hey, Ryan, how are you doing? Your mum working today?"
