This was the first time Derek experienced the feeling of worry. Throughout his years of living, he rarely worried about anything. The last thing he was worried about when his empire lost their clean water source. He never ever worried about losing wars, about anything at all!
But when he saw his beloved wife coughing badly, his heart sank deep. As the day passed, she was losing her voice slowly. She could barely speak without coughing up after every single word. She had even thrown up twice. Her body was also ridiculously hot for a human.
His eyes widened when he walked into their chambers the next day, hoping she would recover a bit at least, but she only appears to look worse. She was shivering uncontrollably. He panicked, he thought she was genuinely dying. He called for healers to help her, but she refused him to do so.
"What are you saying, my love?! You... your body is burning. You cannot even talk without coughing. Can that even be considered as a cough?! Are you sure you are not dying? My love, please." He whispered pleadingly at his beloved wife. He held her body close to his, hoping it would help her calm down her shivering body.
She shakily sighed. "I am..." She coughed. "I am alright, love. This is a good sign..."
"A good sign?! The healer's magic does not even affect you in any way! You are worsening by the hours! W-what is happening to you?" He said in a panicked voice. His face turned pale when she threw up again. "Varin! You are worsening. How is this a good sign...?"
She smiled weakly as she pulled his body close to hers. He was so fidgety and moved so much until she had reassured him it was a normal thing for humans. She needed rest and a hot cup of lemon tea after every meal. She mumbled, "It means I am recovering quickly. It is better... than being in the same state for a long period of time. There is another form of medicine. Lemon-honey with hot water. Could you... help me get some of that, my dear?"
His heart melted when she felt him pull him close. His grip around her body only tightened as he hushed her sweet words in her ears lovingly. She mumbled incoherence before completely falling asleep in his arms. Oh, how he loves her so much. "Of course, my love.
Unfortunately, her words did not reassured him in any way but... this probably was not her first time being this sickly. He could only listen to her. He hoped she would be alright if he does as she says.
