Since my conversation with Aphmau, we all set out on a journey to find her friends who had left in her absence. Everything was going smoothly for the first few days until I got separated from them near Old Meteli. Aphmau, Katelyn, Garroth, and Laurence had gone to check out an island she referred to as "Crazy Cat Lady Island," and I went to scout the old village for anything useful.
It was at this time that they disappeared.
I had been distressed, frantic even. Until I went to the island myself and noted the potent traces of transformation magic. There was something very wrong with what happened here, something that needed to happen given the fact I was led away.
Beforehand, this would've concerned me to no end, frightened me even. But after our conversation the other night, Aphmau, herself, had gotten a feeling something was going to go wrong in the following days. She gave me permission to put a tracking spell on her, so long as I didn't abuse the privilege.
I don't think this would be abusing it.
When I activated the second half of the spell, I sighed as I knew exactly where she was. I was familiar with the area, and the people: the South Eastern Wolf Tribe.
Too many involvements with Zane has left me familiar with their people, and luckily, they've recognized my position with the goddess of the moon and respect me well. This should be easy as several nights spent praying to Helena in advance has left me with an overabundance of mana that I can use to my heart's content.
I teleported there immediately.
Which is where I am now, requesting an audience with their king. I derive comfort from the shadows, now once again, over my face. Especially as his knights stare me down wearily.
It's after twenty minutes that I get antsy. The king is inside, and I know for a fact that whatever he's doing shouldn't take this long. If he's not going to be polite, then I won't either.
I take a step forward and the guards quickly cross their spears over the dark oak doors, barring me entrance. "You are not permitted inside," the one on the left commands. "King's orders."
I smile cruelly. "You are not permitted to forbid me anything." I turn my hand just as the power chills my palm. Oozing black smoke falls from my fingertips and wraps around the pair. I lift them just slightly, leaving their feet dangling above the cold, stone floor before tossing them behind me with ease. They cough and shudder from the pressure released from their throats.
Before they can get up, I slam the double doors wide open. "Surprise!" My cheery, melodic voice echoes through the hall. "I would think you'd learn from the last three times you barred me entrance."
A tied-up Garroth and Laurence turn their heads at the sound of my voice. I'm still dressed how they last saw me, simple traveling clothes and a myriad of weapons at my disposal. "You!" The king calls, his voice echoing just the same. The boys turn back at the sound. "You are not supposed to enter. I was in the middle of deciding what to do with my prisoners."
In the corner of my eye, I can see Aphmau lurch forward at the sight of me. She's on a landing above, the king's son at her side. For now, I ignore the colorful meif'wa ears on all three. I smile maniacally and tilt my head to one side with a silent threat. "Your prisoners..." My voice was lower than normal, and it made the man on the throne sit up straighter. His wife looks scared, but I'm not sure it's because of me.
"Yes. The men traveling with the woman my son is set to marry." Everyone except for the king looks uncomfortable with this fact.
"Marry?" I chuckle darkly. With a simple wave of my fingers, the bonds around Garroth and Laurence's wrists fall away, and my shadows pick them up and gently set them down a few steps behind me. With a crawling speed, I step closer and closer to the king; the cherry red carpet keeping my footsteps muffled. His guards make movements to attack or restrain me, but they fall before they can even make it one step, clawing at their throats. Like the guards outside, I let them go after a few moments, but the damage is done.
