Chapter Four - I'm a 'Bella'

Silence. I can hear every single sound in this room and also, our front yard.  Daniel’s breathing has a rougher edge than mine. The rustling of the leaves outside, the wind hitting my window, a sound that would scare the hell out of me if I was alone and the sound of rustling fabric that is caused by Daniel’s thumb making random patterns on the back of my shirt – a habit of his whenever he’s nervous, afraid, agitated or any of the likes.

I sighed, fearing what he might think of me now. Would he think that I’m just a jealous brat? A girl that could not look out for herself. A girl that couldn’t suck it up and learn her place in his life?  What is he thinking about? I don’t know how long we were sitting on the bed like this. Yes, it is comfortable. As cheesy as it sounds, I’d say that being in his arms always brought comfort to me. Knowing that I’m not that alone or I have someone in my life other than my family. Thinking that sitting around in silence is not going to fix anything, I decided to sit up to get off of his lap but then Daniel’s arms tighten even more than before.

“Don’t,” He whispered against my hair. “Don’t move. Just let me hold you for a little while,”

“Oh. Uh… okay,” I said. Not entirely sure what to make of this bubbling feeling I have inside me upon hearing him say that.

“You scared me, you know that?” he said, pulling my face to meet his.

I gave him a chuckle. Thinking that it was quite obvious that he was scared, but to why, I don’t really know.  “Yeah, I think you’ve stated the obvious Daniel.” I said. His face lit up for a moment then I just had to open my petty little mouth and say “Though I really don’t know why you were scared,” His face harden again and I now I’m thinking that I should really be given an award for ‘Most number of times a person can piss off another’

“Are you fucking kidding me right now?!” His voice boomed. Both his quickness to stand up and his loud voice echoing through my ears made me almost stumble of the bed and meet the floor. I stared at his back hoping that he wasn’t that pissed off.

He then turns around to face me. What did I tell you about getting your hopes up?!  His face, now equally mad and scary as it was the moment he barged into my house. I closed my eyes and sighed. Oh boy, this is going to be one long night.

“What the hell is wrong with you? you don’t know why I was scared out of my senses?!  I’m your freaking Best friend! You’re supposed to be riding with me to and from school! You and I-“He made hand gestures towards me and him. “-are suppose to be in my house eating dinner or watching some freaking movie you’re obviously gonna pick since I never get to pick the movies were suppose to watch! And then out of nowhere, you decide to go stay here and cook up some nice little chicken dinner without even bothering to tell me!”

Oh boy, here we go. “Look, Dan please don’t shout at me okay? I already explained it to you what I heard from Stacy and I just don’t want to get in the way of things. And I seriously forgot to call you but I swear I had every intention to. I don’t really see why are you getting so worked up about this. I mean I’m safe, you’re safe and the Mayans were wrong on predicting that the world would end last 2012.” Yes, I know, joking around at a time like this is not the wisest decision to make.

“Did I-!” I involuntarily flinch back and his expression softened instantly. Sighing he continued, “Did I call you to cancel our plans? I didn’t , right? That’s because I was going to cancel on Stacy before the end of the school. I would not bring Stacy home if you were there. You’re my first priority, Gracie. You should know that by now.” He explained.
