"Please change, Kevin. Please Change."

Kevin sat on the couch with his head down while his mom scolded him. He just kept quiet after the 1-hour lecture he received from his mom. He wasn't ready to start a new argument right now.

"Fine, I don't have enough time for this. It seems Sally had hurt herself. She might need help. So, we will go stay in her house until she feels better." Kevin's mom says.

"But why me?"

"Because you are young and I cannot let you stay alone in this house. Everyone left for the holidays. So, I can't leave you alone."

"Mom, I am in high school."

"I don't care, Kevin. You are coming." She said firmly.

That was where Kevin knew there was no point in convincing her. He gave up and folded his hands on the couch. Suddenly, the notification sound pings from his phone. He checks it immediately. His mouth opens in an O shape. Natasha accepted his friend request. That sad face completely changes into a wide smile. "SHE ACCEPTED!!YAY! "

"What happened? Why are you smiling?"

"Nothing. My friend sent a meme." Kevin replied with excitement.

His mom eyed him suspiciously. She knew he was lying. However, it wouldn't matter much to her what the reason would be. His smile would again droop down realising the work he has to do in Sally's house.

A middle-aged man was sleeping on his couch snoring loudly. His hands are thrown over the table. The table had varieties of branded empty wine bottles, packs of cigarettes and an ashtray. He had a cosy bedsheet covered up to his hairy chest. His spectacles were splashed with the cigarette's ash powder. His hall looked like he was a modern king. The house had two separate floors with three bedrooms.

Gurpreet's state of mind made him forget about the amazing amount of riches he possessed. Suddenly, Someone rang the bell. He couldn't hear at first. Then, the bell rang annoyingly once again. He puts his hand over his eyes to stop the sunlight from completely blinding him. He pulls open the door to notice this morning's intruder.

"Hello, sir. Am I too early?" Ranjan asks. Gurpreet peeps to the side of his frame. His team members smiled at him, standing behind Ranjan.

"I am sorry. I don't know who you are. I think you have the wrong house." Gurpreet replies. Gurpreet pushes the door when Ranjan slams the door flat with his hand.

"No, sir. I think we have the right house."

"What do you want?"

"We would like to investigate the murder ahead of the National Chemical Laboratory," Ranjan said. "You can't stop us. We have a warrant to investigate your house."

"Fine. Come in."

Gurpreet eases his grip off the door handle. The whole team enters to watch the mess. Ranjan circles the table in front of the couch. The team members walk in different directions into the house with their boots stomping across the clean marble floor. Ranjan turns to get a better look at Gurpreet. His eyes had huge dark circles, A thick dark beard and his hairy belly protruded like a balloon.

"Sorry for disturbing you in this state but it's important, sir," Ranjan mentioned. "Let's sit at the table."

Ranjan takes out the chair for Gurpreet like a gentleman and then goes to his seat. He knew these distinguished scientists had to be treated very carefully in serious matters. "Sir, does Amrit Patil ring any bells to you?"

Gurpreet clenched his teeth tightly. Ranjan noticed the expression through his thick beard.

"Yes, he was a senior scientist who worked with us but later he had been suspended. What about him?" Gurpreet asks curiously.

"Well, it was his body which was found dead in front of the national laboratory. Do you think he has enmity with anyone?"

"No. Not really. He did have attitude issues after achieving such amazing feats. Otherwise, He didn't seem like a threat to anyone."

"Also, I heard you suspended him. What was the reason?"

"His attitude issues. We were conducting a dangerous experiment on the evolution of a new chemical in antimatter form. His experiment was working providing good results until the machines started to malfunction. This damaged the equipment in the national laboratory. More than the damage, It could have killed people if the right measures weren't taken. Due to his negligence in this act, I had suspended him from his job."

"Hmm... seems fair, to me," Ranjan said. "Did you talk to him any time after the incident?"

"No. I haven't."

"Fine. Thank you for your time." Ranjan turns his head. "Team, shall we leave? Found Anything?" "Nothing, sir."

"Ok. Let's leave."

Ranjan and his team members march out of the door to the car. Ranjan turns back to see Gurpreet standing straight in front of his porch. He checks around if everything is right and gets inside the car.

As the car leaves the front of the porch, Gurpreet gets back in the house. He shuts the door. His tiring body made him fall on the door with his back over it. His phone rings from his pocket.

"Sir, I couldn't find it." The caller announced.

"You shot him but you didn't find it. Is that what you are saying?"

"Yes, sir."

"I fucking paid you for a job. If that job isn't done, then what is the point of my money?" Gurpreet said calmly. "Let me make this clear. Get it done before it's too late. I don't care how many you want to kill. I need that chain. I am surviving only for the sake of the pendant."

"Yes, Sir. I am on it."

"Also, I want to ensure the police don't phone tap me or get access to my contact list. How do I do that?"
