People who say life moves in slow motion are bluffing. First Curt died and she was spending the night with Bucky, next she was hiding her parachute in a bush.

Bucky's plane went down around ten minutes prior. The sounds of him yelling at Y/N to jump was all that flooded her mind. Telling her to find him on the ground was not going to work out as he jumped out after her and she had no idea where he was. Or even where she was herself. She couldn't stop thinking about why she didn't just take the leave the captain offered her after the death of her best friend. Now she's "slightly" mentally unstable on enemy lines.

Tossing anything that would weigh her down, she felt around her uniform ensuring she had the necessities. Water, granola bar, dropped her gun in the air. So much for staying safe. She groaned at the memory of her beloved falling from the sky. She felt around some more and smiled to herself when she pulled out a classic bowie from her side pocket. Perfect.

"Ok, Y/N. I want you to run up to the dummy and hit it as hard as you can", her father orders her.

"But what if I hurt him?", the eight year old whines, not wanting to pull through with her fathers training.

"Sweetie, I'm only here to show you how to protect yourself when I'm not around", he reassures her.

"I don't want to hurt him", she repeats in the same whining tone.

"Remember what I always say?"

"It's either him or you", the duo says in unison.

"Good", her father smiles. "Now, give it all you got. You've got many more years of training in front of you. Never tell anyone about this okay? This is a last resort understood?"

The little girl nods before taking a deep breath. She faces the dummy and charges.

Snap.

Y/N whips her head in the direction of the noise. Slowly putting her knife back in its designated pocket, retreating behind a tree.

A man, probably around 5'8 comes around a corner. Gun raised, clearly on edge, scanning the forest. No doubt he saw the girl falling from the sky.

She slowly walks backwards, keeping her footsteps light and eyes on the man. Unknowing to her, he didn't come alone. Why would he?

She hears the cock of a gun behind her making her freeze in her tracks.

(Italics = German)

"I've got her! She's over here!", the man yells to his buddy. He turns her around, pressing her up against a tree. "Don't think for a second your little nurse badge will save you", he spat, pushing her forehead back with the barrel of his shotgun.

Fire in her eyes being reminded of the death of her brother, she slowly pulls the knife back out. Jaw clenched she responds to the man, "You'll never win."
