After a few weeks, it got better, Fallon had much to learn from Myles and he wasn't gentle about teaching her as well. They almost bickered like siblings but she held some type of respect for him like an older brother because he was smart, she mostly sat there in awe during some missions.
"Hey, snap out of it we're on a mission," Myles waved his hands in front of Fallon as she nodded and paid attention to his typing.
"Sorry, so I have to follow this code?" She wrote down on her small notebook, Myles hadn't noticed she'd been writing everything down like she was at school and it made him chuckle.
"Does writing everything down seriously help you? You're like a 5th grader, this isn't a test you have to study for; this is real life," He finally spoke up after glancing down at her notebook multiple times.
"It actually does help me for your information," Fallon frowned as she moved her chair away from him and covered her notebook with her hand.
"Come on, here I'll let you look through the security cameras with me and I'll show you how I make sure they leave there with not a single scratch." He motioned his head toward the huge screen.
"How could you do this all alone? I swear it's so many commands you have to press!" Fallon scooted herself closer and inspected the cameras, it was definitely a lot of lives on the line storming into this warehouse.
"Well, it took me six years to do this good and I'm still not perfect but I agree I need more people." Myles sighed.
"Wait, six years? How old are you?" Fallon's eyes widened as she turned her head to look at him.
"I'm twenty-four," He crossed his arms before glancing at her and then at the big screen.
"Jeez, you started at 18?" She turned to the screen and saw Lloyd fight three men, Cameron had come in to steal hundreds of dollars from the room.
"Most of us started young, it's better that way so you don't spend so much time doing nothing," Myles nodded as he clicked through the cameras and spoke into his earpiece. "Guys, more men are coming in you're going to have to pick up the pace."
"So how old is everyone else?" Fallon asked as she whipped her head back to the screen, they were both multitasking as they talked strangely enough. Fallon thought it was dangerous to do but Myles had no problem doing it since it was probably for the best. If they could multitask then they would be able to focus better if something concerning happened at base, that's something Fallon didn't agree with because she needed full focus on something. Nonetheless, she was still able to learn to multitask at this degree, she had no room to complain it was her job at the end of the day.
"Hm, well boss is 21, Lloyd is 20, Liam is 22- Hey guys, watch your left! Where did we leave off?" Myles pressed his earpiece and then continued the conversation. "Cam is 23, and Kian is 21."
"Oh, there's a lot of variety," She quirked her head up to watch Chris who was in the vents, it was strange to see coming from him... She had bullied him earlier about him not getting into the action and just sending in his men but it seems like he did take the criticism.
"I guess, we're all basically close enough in age which is why we work so well together," He laughed as he typed something on his laptop, he motioned Fallon to look at his work before she inspected it and nodded. He pressed enter before speaking into his earpiece, "I cleared the next hallway and the door so you guys can escape I don't see anyone else coming so you guys have to head out now!"
"Is there some sort of timer?" Fallon pressed as she leaned into the popups on his laptop screen, Myles turned to her like he was a little pain, it was like he was about to say something but stopped.
"It's better to expect the worse, that way no one can come out injured or killed," He said before looking back at the cameras.
Ouch, Fallon sensed it hit a nerve since he got all quiet but she didn't want to press on to see how long it would take for him to explode. It did get a little awkward but she decided to use that time to focus more on the mission, she saw all the guys running down the hall with the guns in their hands and Chris met up with them at the end.
"Trucks ready on your right, Kian open the doors," Fallon spoke into her earpiece as the boys followed her direction and to the truck, luckily they got away in the car and drove away in time.
"Not bad, you're getting the hang of it," Myles gave Fallon a high-five, she grinned at him excitedly about it because it was just proof she was getting better.
After they both left the computer room they found themselves waiting outside for the boys, it was something Myles never did but learned to do after he saw Fallon doing it. He had tried to explain that they'd make it home safe but she insisted that 'you never know what could happen', so Myles followed. It was quite unexpected he never knew he'd learn something from her since he was supposed to be training her. She was smart he'll give her that, he's starting to see some logic from her notes it was like she was studying to become a gangster which one could only laugh at.
"They'll be fine, I assure you they have the strength t-" Myles started to talk with his arms crossed but was interrupted by the car rushing into the front of the house and past the gate, the boys piled out rushing with Lloyd in their arms.
"What the hell happened?" Fallon projected as her eyes fell on the injured boy, never would she have thought he would come out injured.
"Just got shot, nothing too serious- Ah! Watch the arm!" Lloyd hissed as Cameron winced, the boys were in a good mood strange enough... It was as if their friend wasn't injured at all, it was the norm for them.
It didn't stop Fallon from feeling panicked though, it was the one thing she still held an alert for in her eyes. She could normalize the weapons, she could normalize the boys and the lifestyle they chose but she couldn't normalize the injuries they would have. They could pass out and she would still stay by their side until they woke up, the boys never understood why she still did it.
She had followed the boys into the medical quarters and towards the room with Lloyd, he was already stitched up and laid down with his eyes closed. All of the other boys had already left but Myles didn't leave without getting a scolding first, he recalled feeling like his mother was scolding him. He didn't imagine Fallon had the guts to scold someone but her words still meant something to him, he knew she didn't mean it to insult him she meant it in a way to help him improve. He knew she didn't want to overstep and act like a boss, he understood she was trying to pitch him ideas to make the operation run smoother.
"Who the hell shot you?" Fallon pinched her temple as she slowly closed her eyes.
"Worried about me, Lonnie?" She opened her eyes to the sly remark, Lloyd had placed one arm behind his head as he smirked at her. "I mean if I knew you'd get this worked up, I would've asked one of the boys to shoot me every time- Ow!"
Fallon had poked at his injury to cut him off, she usually enjoyed his little quirks but not when he was seriously injured. He shot her a glare, "What was that for?"
"To remind you that you are in fact; injured, how could you still make those jokes when you could die?" Fallon crossed her arms.
Lloyd frowned as his right arm pulled away from his head, it slowly moved to Fallon's arms and he lightly held onto her, "I'm sorry you feel that way, joking is my way of coping." He let out a wide grin as Fallon rolled her eyes and sat on the stool next to the bed, it was no use to make him understand the severity but she did feel a trigger from her mother's passing.
She knew it wasn't his fault and she didn't want to blame him for the triggers in her life, the only thing she could do was just be next to him and take care of him like how she wished to do with her mother.
Maybe each day it'll be easier, maybe one day she'll be able to joke about injuries the way he did... but for now, she knows she'll do just fine with attending to their injuries from time to time.
