A Sonnet to Oklahoma

A warm breeze passes o'er the plains.

The children run and play

While old men sit on the porch and pray

That the spring breeze will bring spring rains.

The breeze throws pollen pulled from flowers and trees

And there is not a person around that can stifle a sneeze.

But it is the sneezing they will chose from the long list of norms

If it keeps away those raging Oklahoma storms.

For Oklahoma hosts storms unlike any other

With rain and hail and winds that rage

And that funnel cloud that frightens any age

And forces all to run for cover.

Yet most residents will tell you to this date

They would prefer not to leave such a wonderful State.
