The flowers danced around in the wind and the shadows of ancient trees created cover from the scorching sun.
A little boy, half vampire-half Stealdian looked into the beautiful eyes of a girl who was made of fire itself.
He could control the very air around them and bend it to his will while she could burn a forrest down without a second thought.
They needed each other. He was the air to her fire while she was the light to his darkness.
"What do you think is your favorite flower here?" She said cheerfully breaking him from his thoughts.
He looked around as they walked until he came across a flower that resembled a deep red rose with black around each edge of the petals. Within the center of the rose was a faint orange that reached up through the petals.
"That one." He pointed and they came to a stop.
"Why? What about all these other pretty ones?" She asked.
He laughed inwardly. She was only 10 while he was 12. And she was purely innocent while he was hardened by the life set for him.
The joke was made funnier when he thought of where she'd come from, the place her stole her away from for the day.
She was mean to be heir to the throne of Devuniake, the lake of devils, a gift from the Atsila tribe to the vampire king and queen who were unable to produce an heir.
"I like it because it reminds me of us. Your flame to my darkness, perfectly balanced in something beautiful. I love it- and I love you." The boy turned to her with a slight smile and worry she'd reject him.
To his surprise she jumped up and wrapped her arms around him.
"Aww you're so cute! I love you too." She said squeezing him in her tiny arms.
Just then the world went black and the boy could feel something he'd hit his head and the girl being ripped away from his grip.
He hit the ground hard, a few seconds later he opened his eyes enough to see the flag flying behind the attackers as they disappeared in the distance on horseback.
The Kingdom of Ardevin.
Captors of his light, he was left in total darkness now.
