My alarm clock for school started to play an old song from the 80s. I tried to reach out with my right arm, but it was numb and felt like something was on it. Then I reached it with my left arm, and turned it off. I went to go close my eyes again when I saw my family standing in my doorway staring at me like I just walked on water.
"What?" I said, my voice still groggy and rough from sleeping. My throat was sore from screaming at the concert last night too.
"Who's that?" Mom said, pointing a finger at me.
I rubbed my eyes, and noticed I was laying on the floor. Then I noticed what my family was staring at. Sadie was asleep next to me, using my arm as a pillow with her forehead pressed into my chest.
"This is Sadie..." I said, dazed and confused on when we fell asleep last night. "The girl I went to the concert with."
Scraps of discarded grip tape, and wrappers from wheels, bearings, and bolts scattered around us. Sadie's new board was set up, with her spare deck and clothes she picked up for herself. She was wrapped in one of those blankets you can get with the wolves or puppies on it at Wal-Mart or something. This blanket I got when I was in the hospital, it had the Doritos logo from the 80s I think.
"Did you guys...you know?" Dad asked. "Do I have to call some parents?"
"No we didn't!" I said in a hushed tone, trying not to wake her up. "And no you don't need to call her parents!"
"Oh a little grandbaby..." Mom gushed. "Little chubby feet and hands..."
"Mom stop it!" I was fully awake now, mortified and wished I had died in my sleep.
"What's happening?" Sadie said groggily, stretching out like a cat then opening her eyes and smiled sleepily. "Morning..."
"Morning," My mom said. Sadie jumped, and sat up looking at my family in the doorway. Sadie got to her feet and straightened her clothes.
"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan," Sadie said politely.
"Hey... you work at the country club," Sarah pointed out.
"I do," Sadie smiled and then shook my families hand. "My name is Sadie Morrow, I do work as a caddie at Lotus Country Club. I am Kasey's girlfriend... as of last night. I hope our first introduction doesn't paint me in a bad light." Sadie smiled wide, and talked warmly.
"Oh gosh..." Mom smiled. "I love you already!"
"You're welcome any time Sadie," Dad said.
"I'm watching you," Sarah said with inquisitive squinted eyes.
"Oh..." Sadie said taken aback.
"Sorry about Sarah. She's a little...protective of her big brother," Dad said pulling Sarah away. "School's starting up soon, just to let you guys know." Dad dragged mom and Sarah away and shut the door behind them.
Sadie turned around and sighed, "I think that went well. I was extremely nervous, did I look nervous?"
"No, you looked really calm and happy," I said, as I sat up.
Sadie sighed, and walked over to me, and sat across my lap sideways and laid the side of her head to my chest. "I smell like sweat... and drunk people."
"Yeah you do," I teased.
She bumped my stomach with her elbow. "Can I use your shower?"
