Annabeth's POV
For the Selecting, Thalia, Luke, and I
planned to meet up at Thalia's house. It was difficult sneaking out of my house, but I manage. That's why we're all squished on the couch, eating popcorn.
After the Three's are selected, I sit down next to Thalia and Luke. We both know that Luke is going to the palace. I
don't think that I will be selected.
"And now on to the Four's!" The announcer says excitedly. I feel excited as well. I want to get Selected just so I can stay with Luke. His blue eyes meet mine and I blush.
My mind gets confused. It's only Luke. It's not like it's some stranger. Luke has always been safe and warm.
Thalia squeezes my arm in excitement, pulling me out of my thoughts. In response, I squeeze back. Her blue eyes are shining.
"Claire Thorne from Hansport."
A girl with long, light brown hair is on our screen. Her brown eyes are flashing with excitement. She looks like one of those girls at school who acts better than everyone else.
"Leah Herring from Calgary."
Another girl with brown hair. But her hair is extremely short, almost boyish. It's a cute pixie style, and it reminds me of Thalia's, somewhat.
"Sarah Clarkston from Labrador."
A girl with curly red hair and hazel eyes is now on the screen. Her smile is warm.
"Juniper Bush from Sumner."
A girl with somewhat pointed ears and a happy smile is on the screen. Her hair is a reddish-brown.
"Katie Gardener from Waverly."
A girl with brown hair and a nice smile appears on the screen. I feel so plain compared to all of these girls. No wonder they were Selected, they're all gorgeous.
"Clarisse la Rue from Sota."
A girl who isn't even smiling appears. She has mousy brown hair.
"Ella Harpy from Tammins."
A girl with reddish hair and scared eyes is on the screen. She looks really frightened, and her smile is nervous.
"Thalia Grace from Carolina."
Luke and I shout with excitement. Thalia sits there, shocked. Then her picture shows up on the screen. Her blue eyes stand out against her black clothes. She looks fierce and in control.
"Congrats, Thals," I say. I'm a little disappointed that I won't get to go with-
"Annabeth Chase from Carolina."
I yell with excitement, repeating what Thalia did seconds earlier. Luke crushes me in a hug and Thalia joins him. We're going to stay together, just like we always will.
"We're all going together!" Thalia shouts. I smile at her enthusiasm, not able to believe it myself.
Sometimes, family isn't blood. It's who touches you the most, who you know will always look out for you. That definitely isn't my stepmom or step-brothers. My dad is indifferent towards me as well. Luke and Thalia have always been my family.
We really are all going together. Luke, Thalia, and I. My family.
