T he gods were dying.Forgotten and weak, Olympus was rapidly fading, and the mortals were unaware. But the gods had long ago stopped caring about mortals. They had stopped caring at all.
Many gods were already gone. The minor ones had began to fade years ago, leaving only the most powerful gods. But they were living on borrowed time, and that time was running out.
Zeus, the King of the gods, was weary and exhausted. He rarely left the throne that was built on power and vengeance, a reminder of what he used to be. A reminder of the power he once possessed. Alone, he wasted away on that throne on Olympus, overlooking the lands that once belonged to him.
Hera, the Queen of the gods, waited alone in Zeus and her's chambers. She waited for a husband that was never coming. A husband that was already gone. She stood on the balcony that overlooked the mortal world, and waited for a god that was never returning to her.
Poseidon, the Lord of the Seas, did not leave the ocean. He stayed among the merpeople and sea creatures, hoping that they would not let him fade. But they were powerless to stop it. The ocean slowly left his control, and the tides were once again controlled by the moon.
Hades, the King of the Dead, stayed in the Underworld with his dark wife. They were already among the deceased souls, and they waited for the faces of the gods to join. They waited for the end of Olympus. Together, entwined in each other, they were ready to face the falling darkness.
Artemis, the goddess of the Moon, ran free through the mortal wilderness. Unrestrained and unconfined and unafraid. Her huntresses had long ago fallen to a mortal death, and Artemis was alone. So, she ran, wild and free, escaping the impounding death that chased after her like a bloodthirsty wolf.
Apollo, the god of the Sun, followed his sister. Though she was unaware of his persistence presence, he tracked her across the mortal lands. Forever a distant shadow, he longed to be close to her so that they could die the same way they had been born: together.
Aphrodite, the goddess of love, watched young people fall in and out of love. She no longer had the power she once possessed, so she was unable to control love. But she still looked it with the same awe. Alone on an abandoned beach, similar to the one where she had been created, she closed her eyes, and watched love bloom in faraway places. She watched, and wished, and yearned. But she was alone.
Ares, the god of war, no longer yearned for the bloodlust of battle. He no longer lived for the clash of metal on metal, for the bloody deaths that only war could bring. Instead, he prayed for peace. He prayed that one day, there would be no need to fight to the death. He prayed for the beautiful Aphrodite to return to him. He prayed for forgiveness.
But Athena, the goddess of wisdom, had a plan. She did not allow herself to waste away. Alone among ancient parchments, she planned a triumph for Olympus. She planned the revival of the dying gods. And all she required were young demigods.
Demigods to become gods.
author's notemost of the characters belong to rick riordan, and the idea of a selection belongs to kiera cass.
this is the rewrite of "the demigod selection", and it's going to be more deep and thought out than the original. i hope that you enjoy!
this book is dedicated to you. it was you, after all, who choose to read it. so thank you!
the sequel to this book is out, and it's titled "Waiting on You: Book Two of the Demigod Selection".
i've started to see more Demigod Selection fanfictions popping up on Wattpad, which is amazing. however, i've seen some that take direct quotes from my book. if you're writing a book, you wouldn't just open up harry potter and take quotes from there. that is called plagiarizing, and it's illegal. i'm alright with others writing Demigod Selections (seeing as it doesn't belong to me), i just don't want them to use my words.
thank you, and i hope you enjoy!
