Almost to chapter 50! Any ideas for what I should do to celebrate? If you have a suggestion, send it to me either by PM or in the comments.

Calypso's POV

"Everyone please remain seated. This is just a power outage due to the special lights we've been using. It will be over soon, but in the time being, stay calm and seated," a guards voice tells us through the darkness.

But the lights have been out for at least twenty minutes. A few screams came from the hall a little bit ago, but that was all. There's been nothing since.

"Please do not get up," the guard repeats. "Please stay seated at your assigned tables."

Butterflies swarm in my stomach. Is the Prince alright? Is this another attack like that one girl?

"What do you think is going on?" I whisper to the girl next to me, Hazel.

"I don't know, but I'm going to figure it out. This seems too much like what happened to Piper, and the Selection can't handle another attack like that," she tells me. I hear her chair screech as she stands up.

"Please remain seated," the guard says immediately. "Please do not stand up."

"What's going on?" Hazel asks him. "Why aren't we allowed to leave?"

"Please remain seated. We are experiencing a short power outage, but the lights will turn on shortly."

I may have believed him if not at the second he stopped talking, the doors opened and another guard stumbled in.

"It's another attack! I need all the guards to follow me!" he yells, his blue eyes bright.

"See," Hazel says. "This is an attack and we should have been escorted out of the ballroom long ago. Now it's too late to fix that mistake."

The guard who was telling us what to do stands there, a battle obvious in his eyes. Should he leave or stay here?

"Everyone please stay here while I and a few more guards go and investigate Guard Grace's claim," he says, regaining some poise.

"It's not a claim, it's actually happening. The ones behind these attacks captured Annabeth Chase," at that, the Prince stands up. "and Thalia Grace, another Selected, went after them while the rest of you stayed here. She's preparing to go in there without backup if the rest of you don't come with me."

"Let's go," the head guard says to the rest, clearly elbowing Jason to the side as he passes.

Prince Percy practically sprints out of the door. When he passes me, I can see his eyebrows are knitted together. My heart pangs with sadness. I never knew that the Selection would hurt this bad, that this would be the outcome. I guess I was like the others, believing I had a chance with a man I had never met before.

Hazel sighs as she sits down again. I was surprised at her outburst. Before, she was a gentle girl who tried to agree with everything. But arguing with the guard most definitely wasn't agreeing.

Tonight has changed everything I had thought before.

I hear something fall to the right of me. It lands with a crash and a few girls scream. I am not one of them.

"Sorry," a boys voice calls back. "My bad."

He's right next to me. What if he's part of the attacks?

"Who are you?" I hiss at him.

"Guard Valdez, at your service. And I'm just taking a wild guess, but I'm thinking that you're one of the Selected."

"Of course I am."

"It's called sarcasm, Sunshine."

"Don't call me that," I snap.

"What, Sunshine? I dunno, I kind of like it. It sounds good."

"I don't agree. My name is Calypso, not Sunshine."

"Calypso? Isn't that a type of music? Yeah, I don't remember you. Were you one of the last to be announced? Cuz I kinda fell asleep after the Fours."

My face grows red. He doesn't know that I'm a Six. Not that it matters. He's just a random, annoying guard who's most likely not going to be interested in me. Just like everyone before him.

"Why do you care? Aren't you supposed to be helping stop an attack or something?"

"Is that where everyone else is? Man, you leave to pee for like, six seconds and freaking everything happens."

I find that I want to laugh. I smother it down.

"Yes, they went out that door," I point to the door that everyone went through.

"What door? In case you forgot, I can't see because there are no lights on.

"Right," I'm glad that it's dark because I start to blush. "It's the one next to the stage, the two side doors."

"Okay. Thank you, Calypso. Nice to meet you, Sunshine."

"Wish that I could say the same for you, Guard Valdez."

"My first name is Leo, actually. Leo Valdez."

He leaves me to find the other guards. I feel a blush staying on my face, not leaving. I smile to myself in the darkness.
