The Test

"He was trained in the knight arts." Sagepelt's mew echoed slightly in the circular council chamber, where twelve knights stared down at him above.

"My only conclusion can be that it is a warrior of Darkhaven."

"Impossible." Amethystgaze, deputy of Dawnclan and second in command to Horizonstar retorted with cold calmness.

"The Darkhaveners have been extinct for thousands of years."

'Then where do you think I've got these Kyberclaw marks?'

'Surely not from my apprentice?' Sagepelt was tempted to hiss at him.

"I do not believe Darkhaven could have returned without us knowing." Amethystgaze's narrowed gaze warned that he'd noticed the veiled thoughts in him.

"Ah, hard to see, the Dark side is." Horizonstar rasped at the brown cat while keeping an eye on the scars on Sagepelt's body.

"We will use all our resources to unravel this mystery."

Amethystgaze stared at Sagepelt for a moment longer, then mewed at him.

"We will discover the identity of your attacker."

"May the Force be with you."

Hazelpaw bowed and turned to leave, yet he heard Horizonstar call his Master's name.

"More to say, have you?"

"With your permission, Master," Sagepelt said.

"I have encountered a vergence in the Force."

Horizonstar's eyes narrowed.

"A vergence, you say?"

"Located around a cat?" Amethystgaze added.

"A kit." Sagepelt meowed.

"His cells have the highest concentration of midi-chlorians I have ever seen in a life form."

"It is possible he was conceived by the midi-chlorians."

A stunned silence followed as the council members looked at each other with bewilderment.

A cat consisted of midi-chlorians?

"You refer to the prophecy..." Smoketail mewed.

"Of the one who brings balance to the Force."

"You believe it's this kit?" Featherlight asked.

"I don't presume to-"

"But you do." Horizonstar waved a paw at Sagepelt, cutting him off.

"Revealed, your opinion is."

"I request the kit to be tested, Master Horizonstar." Sagepelt mewed evenly.

"Oh? Trained as a Dawnclan knight you request for him, hmmm?" Horionstar curled his tufted tail around his barbed claws, while Amethystgaze stared at Sagepelt questioningly.

"Finding him was the will of the Force." Sagepelt retorted.

"I have no doubt of that."

There was a hushed series of mewing from the council, and when it died away, Horizonstar said to Sagepelt, sighing.

"Bring him before us, then."

Sagepelt bowed once in answer, then padded away with Hazelpaw at his side.

'May the Force be with you.' Sagepelt thought bitterly.
