Mikasa stared into those beautiful green gold eyes... they were eerily empty. The usual blazing fire was replaced by cold... but wait... as the Commander cut through her thoughts a small kindle of flame returned to those eyes. From watching her...
"I would like to reiterate... most of you by joining the Survey Corp will likely die during missions... The question is. Are you willing to die for humanity? Do you have it within you to sacrifice yourself? If you wish to join other divisions you may disperse." He raised his fist to his chest with a flourish and glared down at the throng quickly trickling away.
"SIR!! Why do you have to be so intimidating!!" Eld whined from his post next to Eren. Eren just cast a bored gaze over his sentry. Weaklings shouldn't be in the survey corps anyway.
As the rest of the deserters disappeared from view only a handful remained: Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Connie, Sasha, Marco, Mina, Thomas, Nack, Ymir, Historia, Bertholdt, Reiner, and a few others. At that very moment however, what made Bertholdt and Reiner nervous wasn't what Commander Erwin Smith had just said... instead they were worried about the fact that Annie had not been seen for several days.
Don't make me hate myself even more. Jean closed his eyes and tried to block out the sound of leaving feet.
"My... mom would be so proud if I were an mp... but I can't... I don't want to be a coward...." Connie mumbled so low that it sounded more like a breath of wind.
"If you were told to die... Could you do it?" Erwin boomed through the nearly empty courtyard. Only 21 people remained. An unlucky number indeed.
"I-I don't w-want to die!!!" One of them whimpered weakly. The commander looked down before continuing.
"Very well then... per traditiona... I WELCOME ALL OF YOU INTO THE SURVEY CORPS AND DEVOTE YOUR HEARTS TO THE CAUSE!! SHINZOU WO SASAGEYO! Your bravery is admired!"
"YESSIR!"

one month later Karanes district.
*CLANG CLANG CLANG*
"COMMANDER 30 SECONDS TILL GATE OPENING!!"
Eren sat proudly and tall on his horse. The cool morning air caressed his usually haggard face. Today an adrenaline greater than the time he sealed the hole, greater than the time he had at court, greater than the time he fought Levi... He felt energy coursing through his veins... It was time to prove himself. This time he was prepared... this time he had an idea. Instead of in the very center Eren and the SOS squad had been set towards the right. After all he had a greater chance of taking on Annie there. Each squad was told a different story about Eren's location in case of back stabbers.
Coffee brown hair fluttered in front of his now glowing titan green eyes. Due to the different circumstances Erwin had agreed to Eren's proposal as now the survey corps secretly know the existence of other shifters.
"THIS IS IT! SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT AS THE HUMAN RACE TAKES ANOTHER STEP FORWARD!!" someone at the front roared.
"OPEN THE GAAAATE!"
"LAUNCH THE 57TH EXPEDITION OUTSIDE THE WALLS!!"
"ADVANCE!"
The ground rumbled and the buildings shook as the gate of wall Rose rose higher and higher.
"GO GO GO!!!"
Eren spurred his brown Arabian horse who matched him with coffee colored fur. His horse was named 'Hunter' who was one of the speediest horses in the stables. The first time he had met Hunter, the horse had dazzled him with his warm caramel colored eyes and white star like patch on his head. Hunter was a free spirit.
