"I had an idea," Mando calls from the back of the ship. I hum loudly so he knows I'm listening from my spot near the ship's front as I wrap up the cables we used in the N-1 to place them back in the bench compartment.
Most of our day today was spent in this strange...domestic way. Mando slept the whole night after going into my room. We're both still on Aq Vetina time, so at the time when it would probably be morning there, he was up and fussing at me for letting him sleep so long. I'd argued that he needed the rest. Grogu and I were happy to sleep in the hangar. After eating, Mando took me around the ship to show me everything in its place. He wanted me to feel like the ship was mine. I moved a few things and situated everything where I wanted it while he entertained the kid. Then I went through some maintenance and cleaning for R5. It didn't feel like a day had gone by. And yet, it had. And we'd spent it easily in each other's company without me even thinking about it.
"What if we visited all the places we went together?" He proposes the idea eagerly as he makes his way through the hall at the back of the ship. "Familiarity might spark some memories."
He often talked about getting my memories back throughout the day, too. It makes my stomach twist uncomfortably. "How many places are there?"
He walks into the refresher but leaves the door open. I think he's gathering supplies for something. "Well...we don't have to go to every single planet. Some were less pleasant than others."
I can only imagine the kinds of situations we ended up in protecting Grogu from the Imperial remnants and Gideon. "Where would you start?"
He steps out of the refresher with a bundle of bacta spray and bandages in his arms. "Nevarro. It's where we first met."
I swallow thickly. "You've mentioned Nevarro before."
He nods, setting the supplies down. He takes the long cable from my hands and wraps it quickly without thinking. "Greef Karga is there. He's a friend."
I raise an eyebrow and work on wrapping the second cable. "Yours or mine?"
He pauses a moment. "Ours."
I silently toss the wrapped cable in the bench compartment with his and close the lid. "I forgot to tell you earlier," I say, changing the subject quickly. "Grogu wants to have a sleepover."
The helmet tilts curiously. "A what?"
A small grin grows on my lips and I nod. "He's getting better with communicating."
Mando immediately picks up on how my mood is lifting and his tone lifts with it. "Yeah?"
"I promised I'd bring his blankets out here, use those lanterns we had out before, and make it a whole thing." I watch as he hums and busies himself with climbing up to the cockpit. It looks like he's calculating a jump to Nevarro. I linger in the hangar, wringing my hands together. Grogu stares at me from his corner where he was playing with his toys. Now, he's frowning. I roll my eyes. "He...he wanted it to be all three of us."
Mando pauses, his back still facing me. I mumbled the words out in hopes that he might not even hear them. His back stiffens and he shakes his head. "I don't want to make you uncomfortable."
I risk another glance at Grogu. His eyes are pleading with me and I sigh. "It would be okay."
He jumps down the short ladder and back into the hangar, his helmeted gaze boring into me. "Okay."
It takes a bit of time to get everything set for our evening, or, what would be evening if we were still on Aq Vetina. Mando goes into the refresher to shower while I use the hotplate to heat some more of the soup we took with us. Then I make sure the overhead lights are all off and only the dim lanterns illuminate the space. I guess it's the best I can do to replicate laying under the stars like one would in a normal sleepover. When that's done, I set the food aside and grab some blankets and pillows from Grogu's compartment and my bedroom. I'm not sure exactly how I want to set them up since...
