I woke up ready for this exciting weekend. I was so ecstatic, I was smiling ear to ear as soon as I got up in the morning, which is crazy because I am never smiling in the morning.
I zipped up my bag and I put my hair in a ponytail before heading downstairs. I entered the kitchen and I was happily encountered by Carol.
"Good morning sunshine," she says as she kisses the top of my head.Carol's hair was dark brown, so shimmery and perfect, she used to model back in her "prime," as she would say. "Ready for a big day of fun?" she asks while shoving a piece of toast in my mouth. I jump back and take the toast out of my mouth with a chuckle.
"Maybe not as excited as you, but yes, I'm very excited," I said while biting into the toast. She winked and shook me by shaking my shoulder.
"I do not want us going back an hour into the trip from you saying you forgot something so you better double-check," my mom says while pointing a finger at me.I sigh and say,
"If anyone, that will be Kaley with her 3 bags of makeup and clothes," I chuckle while climbing into a seat in front of the island.
"What about me?" she says coming down the stairs. I look over and my eyes widen. She's wearing a full face of makeup and her hair is curled. I laugh and shake my head.
"You do realize that we're going camping right? It isn't a beauty contest," I say. She plops her bags down, flips her hair, and says,
"Every day is a beauty contest, my love." I smile at her as she struts her way over to the island and grabs a piece of toast.
"Where is Danny?" I ask looking around for him.Carol lifts her eyebrows and takes another bite of her breakfast before she says,
"He had to pack a few more things, you know him always a procrastinator," she says with a smile. I nod.
"I always tell him to stop with procrastinating, it's not a good look, and it certainly won't be good for the future," Kaley says with a laugh.I roll my eyes, poor guy, he barely knows what he's getting into. A whole lifetime full of perfectness...how boring could that get? I heard our front door open and Danny came walking in with his little sister Julianne.
I sign hi at her as she comes in. She runs up and hugs me first. And then Kaley turns to Danny and asks him how to sign, Where is my hug? He shows her and she tries to do it the best she can.
Julianne gives me an awkward look before scooting closer to her to hug her. I knew I was Julianne's favorite and that made me very happy.
I looked at Danny and Kaley, they still seemed kind of tense. They didn't do the daily 1-hour hug they'd usually do. Danny glanced at me with his eyes and then quickly looked back at the ground once I caught him staring. I wonder what he was thinking.
"You still bringing that Liam boy?" my mom asked while taking a sip of orange juice.
"Oh? A boy?" Carol says with an intrigued smile. I shook my head to let her know it wasn't anything serious.
"Liam Welch?" Danny asks while furrowing his eyebrows. I nodded awkwardly.
"You know him?" Carol asks.
"Nah but I know his brother, we were on the same baseball team, Connor Welch, he was a total douchebag, he was terrible at baseball too," he says while taking a piece of toast out of my hand.I sigh as he looks me in the eye while biting into the toast.
"Liam is a nice guy, and he really is excited for this trip so please, don't ruin this for me," I say. They all nod and agree. We all begin to head out of the door and I say,
"He lives at 3784 Porvue Drive," I catch up to his side and he stops in his tracks.
"We have to pick up this guy too?" he asks. I push him a little bit,
"Yes and please be nice, I really like him," I say with a serious face. Danny's eyes soften and he nods with a soft smile. He opens the car door and gets in slowly. I'm starting to regret my decision to invite him, I just know that Danny will embarrass me.
