My Sister's Boyfriend

Chapter thirteen

I woke up to a bunch of talking outside. My eyes squinted as I opened them revealing the bright sun through the tent. I looked over at Kaley's bed which was made and tidy.

I covered my face and sighed while listening to birds chirping, I didn't want to go out there and face Danny after last night. Everything felt weird now. Maybe he was drunk...or...on drugs, which wouldn't make sense because Danny in a million years would never even dare to do that kind of stuff.

I get up out of my bed and pull my hair up into a ponytail and I put on some crocs. I breathe before heading out of the tent. I exit and I see everyone eating breakfast at the picnic table.
"Well, good morning sunshine!" Carol says with a smile.

I smile and sit down across from Danny. I look up at him and he quickly glances at me. Great, now everything is gonna be weird between us and it's not even my fault.
"How did you sleep, Kare?" Carol asks while passing me a plate of bacon.

I choke on the water that I had just chugged. Oh, my night? Peachy, is just amazing. I clear my throat and glance at Danny again who is minding his own business. How can I be the only one who is suffering right now?
"My night?" I ask with a clogged throat. Carol nods with a confused smile.

Kaley looks at me with a confused look too. "My night was great, slept like a baby," I say with a nod.
"Good," she says with a wink. I smile grab a piece of bacon and eat it with frustration. Everyone finishes their breakfast and is told to clean up their tents.

Liam comes over to my tent and I look up and smile.
"Oh hey," I say.
"Hey, I'm sorry if I ruined this trip for you, I feel like it was ruined after I got hurt," he says. I feel bad after he says that so I say,
"No, no, please don't apologize, it wasn't even any of your fault whatsoever, please don't think you ruined it for me, honestly, it was ruined from the beginning," I say reassuring him.

He gives a look like the weight has been lifted off of his shoulders when I say that. I finish packing away our tent when I run into Danny. I try to go around him when he stops me. He grabs my stuff and says,
"Listen, I'm sorry about what happened last night, I was a little bit out of my head, can you just forget that, I don't like there to be awkwardness between us," he says quietly.

Out of his head? Why did this sting a little bit? I thought to myself as I looked at him.
"What did you think I was Kaley or something?" I asked with attitude. He looks around making sure no one heard that when he looks back down at me.
"Of course not I just-" he was cut off by my mom saying,
"Ready to go kids?" We both look at her and smile and nod.

We both look at each other again and I say quietly,
"It's fine. I have already forgotten about it anyway," I lie. He nods and then puts on a half smile and walks away. I sigh and watch as everyone loads their stuff away.

It was so hard to say goodbye to this place, until next year Southpine Woods. I got into the back of the truck and Liam climbed in next to me. I looked over at him and he smiled.
"How's the nose?" I ask while touching his chin to tilt his head up towards me.
"Still broken," he says.

I make a sad face and pat his shoulder lightly before saying,
"I'm so sorry again, I never meant for this trip to end up this way," I say while starting to rant. He calms me down before saying,
"Hey, it's okay, honestly, I needed to get out of my house, and this was beyond interesting."

I smile and let out a big sigh as Danny and Kaley get in the truck. I remember what Danny told me last night as I get in the car. I look over at Kaley and she's facing the window. I wondered when he was gonna break up with her.

I never in a million years think I would have to say that. As he begins to drive I can't help but think about last night. It didn't even feel like it happened. I couldn't believe how Danny could act like that last night and then ask me to forget about it a day later.
