I woke up with a smile on my face, I couldn't believe that I finally got him. The smile barely left my face, my shower I was singing with a scrub brush as my microphone. I pranced down the stairs and my mom raised an eyebrow at me.
"Why are you so felicitous?" she asks. I shrug,
"I just want to be happy," I say with a smile. My mom nods and continues sweeping. I put my hair up and lace up my running shoes.
"I'm going for a run," I say.
"It's cold outside," my mom says.
"It's only 34 degrees," I say then I leave. I start to run off of my lawn and then I run on the street, the cold air blowing against my face as I press through it. I kept replaying yesterday in my head over again, I still couldn't wrap my head around that Danny was my boyfriend. I run around the block a few times, my breath visible because of the cold. I get around to our block again and I see Danny taking the trash out, he was at the side of his house. I smile and run over to him but as soon as I get on his snowy lawn I slip on a sheet of ice and fall face first in the snow. I grunt as I push my chest off of the freezing snow. I hear crunching in the snow from Danny running towards me.
"Are you okay?" he laughs as he helps me up by pulling from my shoulders. He places me on my feet and I wipe off the snow with an exhaling laugh.
"I'm fine," I start to laugh harder. He smiles and then pulls me in by my waist,
"No no I am sweaty and gross," I say while squirming away from him. He insists and pulls me to him tighter.
"I don't care," he says then ke kisses me. I pull away and look around making sure no one was out here. I pat his chest and step away from him with a smile.
"I've still gotta get used to that," I say with a woozy chuckle. He leans against the side of his house and smirks proudly.
"Do you want to go to a real party tonight? Really have some fun?" he asks. I smile,
"Danny the last time I went to a party it was a disaster," I say reminding him. He nods with a cringed face.
"It's not that kinda party...it's like...a dance party, big strobing lights, loud music," he says.
"So like a club?" I ask.
"No not a club, well sorta- just I think it'd be fun, we could actually go on our first date," he says. Danny felt lile he could never have fun with Kaley, he felt like he was being babysitted by her. Danny knew that I loved to have fun, and I know that he likes to have fun.
"Plus you can take your lonesome dance parties out of your room and into the party," he jokes.
"Hey!" I hit him. "You aren't even supposed to know I do that," I say embarrassed.
"Hey I think it's cute," he says with a flirty tone.
"Okay...whatever," I smile shyly.
"I'll pick you up right when your mom falls asleep, so text me," Danny says.
"Okay I will," I say. I then start to walk away but then stop. I run back to him and wrap my arms around is shoulders and place a kiss on his lips.
"See you tonight," I say still holding on to him.
"See you tonight," he smiles. I let go of him and walk away and he says.
"Now go take a shower." I turn around and scoff then I throw a snowball at him. He laughs and I run to my house with a grin. I quickly open my door and I run upstairs. I suddenly bump into someone. I gather myself and then look at who it was.
"Kaley!" I say with surprise while being out of breath. She rubs her shoulder and looks at me like I'm a maniac.
"Kara what the heck are you doing?" she asks.
"I'm sorry I didn't see you," I say still out of breath. She scans me and then raises an eyebrow,
"Are you okay, why have you been so weird lately?" she asks. I swipe my sweaty hair out of my face.
"Um I'm not being weird, it's just...Christmas time, I love Christmas," I say raising my hands.
"Hm," she says while starting to go downstairs. "Oh! Mom's work party is tonight, wear something nice, and please don't make us late," she says to me. I nod,
"You got it sista," I point my finger at her. She furrows her brows again and then walks downstairs. I breathe out with a relieved look on my face. I walk into my room and get ready for another shower plus a concert, if you know what I mean. After my shower I got ready for my mom's work party. I wore a black skirt and a white blouse, I hated going to the work parties, they were always so boring. I would sit down on this fancy couch that smelt like old lady perfume. The adults would drink champagne and promote people. I knew thiswas important to my mom though so, I never bailed, she does work hard and she did deserve this promotion. I fix my hair and put it in curls and then I walk downstairs. My dirty converse were by the door so I went to grab them. I heard Kaley go,
"Uh, uh," I look over at her and she's holding up white heels and a different outfit.
"I'm not wearing those Kaley," I say while shaking my head. She scoffs,
"Yes you are, we're not leaving until you put this on, it's a semi-formal thing Kara," she says.
"Those look like Gram's curtains, and you know I don't do well in heels," I say holding them up with disgust.
"Well now will be a good time to practice," she says with a smile before dropping off the old lady curtain dress into my hands.
"Go!" Kaley pushes me. I groan as I go to put them on, as long as it made mom happy, I was good for the night. I put on the dress and what do you know, they looked like old lady clothes. I wiggled my feet into the heels and my feet already hurt. I used my dresser to help me stand up and it felt like I grew 4 feet taller. I wobbled down the stairs and Kaley's eyes lit up.
"Good, let's get going shall we?" she asks and I roll my eyes. The party was just as I expected. Old people from mom's job shook my hand and millennials were drinking champagne and laughing at their kid's baby pictures. My mom was wearing a black pant suit, her blonde hair was pushed back, she looked really sharp. She got premoted and I was really proud, she looked really happy, the most happy I have seen her in a long time. She walked over to Kaley and I at the end of the promotion and grinded her teeth together with excitement. Kaley hugged her first,
"Congrats mommy," she says while putting her voice in a higher octive. My mom looks at me while hugging Kaley, her eyes grow wide,
"I can't believe you got her to wear heels," my mom says to Kaley. Kaley smiles proudly.
"Yeah well soak it in because it's never happening again," I say rubbing the blisters on my ankle.
"You look beautiful sweetie," she says hugging me.
"So do you mom, congrats, you deserved this more than anyone," I say. She smiles appreciatively and kisses my forhead.
"Aww I love you girls, now let's get home, I've been here with these people for too long," she says then we all laugh. We got home and I ran upstairs and waited and waited for what seemed like forever. My mom took a shower and she crashed right after. I changed into the same outfit as before the promotion and I put on a little more makeup. I got a text message from Danny telling me that he was here and I smiled. I crept down the stairs and then I opened my door slowly. Danny's car was parked out in front and I quickly ran to his truck. I opened the door and climbed inside.
"Hey-" he says but I interrupt him with a kiss.
"Hi," I say close to his face with a smile. He smiles too and then he starts to drive off.
"You look...so great," he says glancing at me. I cross my arms over my stomach and smile.
"Really?" I ask insecure. He scoffs,
"Look at you," he says pulling down my mirror. I look at myself and I can see the blush appear on my face. I shield my eyes and chuckle.
"Don't worry I can't see your blush that well," he jokes. I hit him in the arm and then slump down in my seat. I was nervous, I never really was fully nervous with him. I had to keep pinching myself and reminding myself that everything was real. Danny liked me, he was finally mine. All of my dreaming and wishing was an actual reality now. Knowing that we'd be in public and being together gave me butterflies. People were going to know that we were together, people would see us. The moon was bright tonight it shown on our faces. I looked over at Danny and he looked so handsome, he always was but something about tonight, he looked so beautiful. We walked into the party. Lights were strobing everywhere, the place was booming with the music, people were dancing and everyone looked happy. Everyone looked around young adult-ish. I looked up at Danny with an excited smile and he pulled me close while smiling too. He bends down to reach my ear and he says,
"Welcome to a real party," he says while twisting my body to face him and he dips me. I laugh and then I come back up.
"Let's go dance!" I yell and pull him more to where people were dancing. He laughs and then pulls me closer. We start dancing and my hair flips around as I move. The lights strobing on me made me feel super confident, it made me feel like I was in a movie. A guy walks up to me. He was almost as short as me, his hair was dirty blonde and he had a snarky smile on his face. He dancing up to me and touches my shoulder but I pull back away from him.
"Hey pretty girl, why don't you dance with me," he says. I start to say something to him before Danny steps in.
"She's with me, get lost," He says, he was basically towering over him. He puts his hands up with defense.
"Sorry man," he says then he walks away. I turn to face Danny and he grabs my hands then I walk closer. The light in between us, felt so hot. I put my hands on his shoulders and then again my lips were his.
"This was the most fun I have had in a long time, I never got to get loose like this with Kaley, I can be free with you," he says. I nod,
"You deserve everything you want Danny," I say. He smiles,
"I do have everything I want," he says as he puts my hair behind my ear. I look at him and butterflies fill my stomach again. We went hoe and it was almost 4 a.m. I ran to the door and I opened the door carefully, then I slipped inside. I went up the stairs and quickly went into my room. I slid down my door and couldn't contain my smile. A part of me felt so guilty but another part was so happy, this was the happiest I've ever been.
