It was Friday and it was officially time to party. I was ready to forget about school and everything about the whole Danny situation. It started snowing again today, For some schools it's not normal to have parties in the fall or winter, but my school is known as a party school and we have them all year round. I put on a long sleeved green shirt and a black skirt then headed out of my room.
"Where are you going looking all pretty?" Kaley asked. My hair was curled and I had put on a little more makeup than usual.
"No where..." I say while swinging my purse over my arm. I started to walk past her with a guilty face when she pulled my arm. I closed my eyes, I knew I was busted. I turn to Kaley and she is smiling softly,
"Just be safe Kare, and don't do anything stupid!" She yells as I start smiling. I run down the stairs and I slipon my converse that are by the front door. I open the door and Lee comes shooting through it. She grabs my shoulders and smiles,
"Yes Kara, now this is what I'm talking about, you look so hot!" Aleah says with excitement. My eyes grow wide and I nudge my head over to my mom who was in the kitchen. She turns her head slowly to the kitchen and smiles quickly.
"Hey Mama Layla, how are you?" Aleah asks with nervousness. My mom raises an eye-brow and looks at me ten back at her.
"Where are you taking my daughter Lee?" My mom asks with a suspicious smile. Aleah puffs out her cheeks and then blows the air out while saying,
"We're going to...my cousins birthday party..." She says slowly. I scratch my head with embarrassment, I knew my mom knew what was happening.
"Okay, but bring her back before 12 please!" My mom says with a motherly smile. I smile and then look at Lee who makes a smirk appear on her face.
"Will do, you're the best, love you!" Aleah says while blowing a kiss. She leaves out of the door and I mouth to my mom,
"Thank you," She nods and then says,
"She doesn't have a cousin in this state does she?" My eyes grow wide and then I go out the door and yell,
"See you later mama, love you!"
We get in the car and we both laugh as she drives off. I go quiet while we're driving there and Aleah notices.
"Hey girl, you okay?" she asks while touching my shoulder. I look over to her and nod with a smile,
"Yes I'm okay, I am just ready to finally have some fun," I say while rubbing my arms. She smiles and makes a puppy dog face while saying,
"Babe, we're gonna have so much fun, you deserve it, finally forget about all of your stress!" She says with excitement. I look at the house that we're pulling into and I can already tell that there is a bunch of people here. There's kids outside throwing snow at each other and people just standing outside. I felt a sense of regret as we got out of the car. I looked at Aleah and she was uncontrallably smiling.
"Now this is a party," she says as we walk into the house. My eyes grow wide as I see the decorations and lights.
"Wow people really go all out for these ragers don't they?" I ask while glancing at people as we make our way through the crowd.
"Always! Rich kids," she says with exclaimes. I laugh and then lock eyes with Karissa who was sitting on a staircase. I smile and wave to her and she waves back. She gets up and makes her way to me. I give her a hug and I say,
"I am honestly so surprised to see you here, but I'm glad that you are, I miss being close friends," I say with a smile.
"Me too, I miss when we used to go make mud pies together during recess, good times," she says. I laugh and then look around,
"Do you want to like go dance or something?" I ask. Karissa cringes and then scratches her neck.
"I can't dance," she says. I smile and pull her arm,
"And you think I can, our goal is to have fun, dancing...fun?" I explain. She exhales and then laughes,
"Okay okay lets go." We start to dance and Aleah joins in. She looks at Karissa and her eyes grow wide,
"No shot? No way Karissa is here? Oh my gosh hey girl!" Aleah brings her in for a hug and we all continue dancing. Who knew the two most introverted girls would be dancing at a party. I was actually having a good time, I doubted it for a minute but now I am so glad I came here. I felt a buzz in my hand from my phone and I quickly glanced at it.
Hey
It was a text message from Danny...No way!
I stopped dancing as I stared at my phone, why is he suddenly texting me, we hadn't had a text conversation in so long. I looked at Karissa and Lee and Lee looked at me with a concerned look,
"Oh no what is it now?" she asks. My face starts to turn red, all I wanted was a night to have a Danny free brain...this was not helping.
"I need a drink," I say while pushing through people. I get to the kitchen and I grab a cup and take some punch. I gulped it down but then realized that there was alcohol in it.
"Woah I can tell you've done that a lot," a girl says from the edge of the island. I look at her and shake my head,
"Never, I've never drank before," I say while wiping my mouth while starting to feel the burn in my chest.
"Well you'll surely regret that tonight then, that was a lot for a new drinker," she says while sipping her drink. I look down at my cup and I start to regret what I had just done, at this point I couldn't care less at the moment. I dip my cup in again and get another cup, I wanted anything to get my mind off of him, he was driving me insane. I lean against the counter and sip my drink and watch the people dancing around me. I then slide down and I'm now on the floor. My head starts to spin and I then feel my phone vibrating, I slowly pick it up and see that Danny is callin me. I roll my eyes and then answer it.
    "What?" I say loudly,
"Woah, why so glum? Wait-are you at a party? Why is it so loud?" he asks.
Great now he wants to control where I go...I think to myself as I get up from the ground.
"I can go wherever I want Danny, why are you like so crazy?" I say while walking to the door.
"I'm sorry I didn't know you felt that way...have a good time," he says.
"I will-I am great- I'm having a blast!" I stutter...The alcohol was starting to get to me.
"Wait are you drunk?" he asks quickly.
"Nope...so not that..." I say with a chuckle.
"Kara have Aleah, or Kaley take you home, don't let a guy get near you, you need to go home," he says quickly.
Wow he was actually really worried...I think to myself as a snowball suddenly smashes into my face. I get knocked into the ground and my phone falls on the ground.
"Kara? Kara are you okay?" I hear subtly from my phone. I touch my head and brush the snow off my face. A boy comes over and apologized quickly before running back to where he was before. I rolled my eyes and reached for my phone,
"Just leave me alone, I'm trying not to think about you," I say as I get up from the ground.
"Okay well, please go home, I won't be able to sleep unless I know you have a safe ride home," he says. I sigh and then
"I like when you protect me," I say quietly.
"Go home Kara," he says for the last time before hanging up. I look back down at my glowing phone and I rub my head with frustration, what was happening? I walk back in the party and make my way through the crowd looking for Aleah, since she was my ride home. Even when I was drunk he still had a pull over me, for some reason every time he asked me to do something, I would do it, I hated that. I find Lee and she's talking to a guy.
"Oh my gosh, speaking of her! Woah babe, you don't look so good..." she says while pulling my chin up.
"I have to go back home, don't ask, but I'm sorry," I say loudly. The music for some reason seemed the have gotten louder.
"Okay well that's fine, let's go, bye Jared," She says with a flirty smile towards him. "How much have yo had to drink, why did you drink at all? You hate drinking," she says as we walk out of the party.
"I don't know it was an accident, I needed to not think," I say. We get in the car and she turns towards me.
"Girl...what is going on with you? You have been so off after...you know left," she says with a concerned look. I slouch down in the seat and I whine,
"It's so annoying," I turn to her and she leans her head agaist the seat. "I have to force myself to not love him, because if I dare to even look at him a certain way, she would see and she would probably never even talk to me again. When I try to get over him, everything just get's worse, and I know I never have a chance because I'm not Kaley, and I don't even know if he could ever like me in that way," I rant quickly.
"Woah Kare...listen, maybe you need to just talk to him about this, you'll be okay, its not easy to get over someone that you're in love with, and you've been in love with him since when? Nine?" She asks. I look at her and nod she tucks my hair behind my ear and then smiles,
"Kara...he'd be a fool not to love you back, it doesn't hurt just to try and find out..." She says while starting to start up the car. I think about what she says for a minute, she was right, she usually was right. I need to get my act straight, I'll talk to him and see what is going on between us. I would hate to lose him, he's my best friend, and frankly talking to him would ease my brain. I realized as soon as we pulled in front of my house that my mom would most likely still be up.
"Here's what we're going to do, we're gonna go in and you're going to act completely normal, and then you're gonna walk upstairs and take a nice shower, then go to bed, don't worry about Danny, you'll figure it out tomorrow, okay?" she says. I nod profusely and then open the car door. I was an hour before my curfew so I was okay on that. I walk into my house and my mom is sitting on the couch.
"Hey how was the birthday party?" My mom says while putting down her book. My heart starts to race, there is no way she doeasn't know that I'm not sober. I walked to the staircase a bit more before saying,
"So fun, it was just great!" I say loudly. My mom nods suspiciously, before I start walking up the stairs,
"Make sure to take some tylenol for your head, hangovers are not a fun thing," my mom says with her nose in her book. She knows...
"You aren't mad?" I ask. She sighs and then says,
"Just don't do it again, I don't want you falling into that trap...it's dangerous," she says quietly. I nod and then walk up to my room I flop on my bed and then click open my phone. I go to Danny's and I's messages, and I start to write out this text.
Hey, I'm sorry for being so snappy...I'm never drinking again, wanna call and catch up tomorrow?
I place my phone on my nightstand and I dig my head into my pillow. It wasn't long after when I fell asleep, I think I fell asleep face down too.
Like I said to him...I'm never drinking again.
