Genevieve-1 month later
"I'm pregnant, girl!" Audree squeals while squeezing my hand.So this is the big news that she had to take me out to lunch for? Of course, I'm happy for her, but also a little jealous. I plaster on a smile and say
"Congratulations! How many months?" I ask.
She frowns at my reaction.
"What's wrong? You're not happy for me?" She asks.
"I am happy for you, Audree. It's just that it's easy for you to do this whole pregnancy thing."
She sighs.
"Your time will come when God wills it. Have you and Trey ever considered adoption?" She asks.
"Yes, that seems like the only way out for us." I say while kneading my napkin.
Audree holds my hand and says,"Well I'm here for you whenever you need me. I can only imagine what you're going through."
"Thank you, Aud."
I take a deep breath, and decide to change the subject.
"Well, let's order something to eat. I'm starving."
Audree flashes me a sad smile, and agrees.
"C'mon, Audree. Don't be sad. This should a time of celebration because you're pregnant!" I say enthusiastically.
She smiles and says,"Okay."

Genevieve-Later on
Trey holds onto my hand as we sit and wait in the doctor's office. She should be back with the test results at any moment. After what seems like an eternity, the door opens and Dr.Carter walks in."Sorry for the delay. I got stopped in the hallway by a nurse." She says while taking a seat behind her large desk.
"Oh no. That's alright." Trey replies politely.
She looks at both of us and smiles. If this trick does not tell us the results...
"Okay, so I ran the tests and looked at the x-rays. It seems that you have uterine fibroids in your uterus."
I close my eyes. Fxcking fibroids. I already know what they are. Trey, obviously confused, asks,
"Can you explain to me what they are? And, is this what's causing us not to get pregnant?"
Dr.Carter leans forward a bit.
"Uterine fibroids are noncancerous tumors that grow in the uterus. Don't worry, they have nothing to do with uterine cancer. But, these may be the reason why you haven't been able to conceive properly."
I nod my head. Trey furrows his eyebrows.
"There are many treatment options that are available to-"
"Excuse me, but being sexually assualted-raped- can cause these?" Trey asks.
He asks too many questions.
"Yes, but there are other reasons such as genetics and hormones."
Dr. Carter looks back and forth between us.
"Anymore questions or shall we continue into treatment options?"
"No, doctor. No questions." I reply.
I squeeze Trey's hand to tell make him shut up.

Trey
Genevieve refuses to let me touch her or talk to her when we get home. Her coldness towards me is too much so I need to go somewhere. Where though? My phone rings and I check to see that it's Genevieve mom, Valerie."Hey mom." I say when I pick up.
"Hello, son. How are you?" She asks with her thick accent.
Since both of Genevieve's parents moved back to Haiti a couple years back, it's been hard for her to see them.
I sigh. I don't know why, but I feel like I can confide in Gee's mom. She knows how to listen and keep secrets well.
"Pwoblem, mami. We lost another baby again today." I tell her sadly.
She clucks her tongue and says,"Bondye fe tout bagay pou yon raison.(God does everything for a reason.)Pitit, you have to remain on your knees in prayer."
That's easier said then done. Lately, my faith has been growing weak, and I know Gee's has been too. Is this God telling me to take my butt to church?
"Okay, mom... I don't know how to talk to Gee anymore. We're pushing away from each other slowly. She didn't even want to look at my face today."
"She's a woman, pitit. A woman who has been having trouble carrying a child. She feels like she disappointed you."
"Oh..."
"Oh? When was the last time you have been to church?"
I remain silent trying to remember. New Year's? It's July now.
"I think December..."
"Cherie, al l'eglise(go to church.) Then go home to your wife." She tells.
I start the engine and head to the church. I speak a little more with Gee's mom before hanging up. I feel kind of better now that I've talked to someone trustworthy. At church, I just talk to God.
------------------------
I stare at the ceiling fan in the bedroom I share with Gee. I really feel like hitting a blunt, but Gee would kill me. Genevieve is somewhere in this big ass house. I don't know where though. I finally decide to get up and search for her, but the front doorbell rings. Who is that? I walk down the large steps and onto the corridor. The person who waits behind the door rings again."I'm coming." I mumble under my breath.
I check the peephole. Caleb and my driver, Paul. Then it hits me that it's my week with Caleb. I totally forgot. I open the door and smile.
"Hey, Caleb."
"Hey, daddy." Caleb says before hugging me and walking into the house and up to his room. I can't believe he's already 5 years old.
Every other week during the summer, Caleb flies over on my private jet here. He comes bustling down moments later and asks,
"Where's Auntie Gee?"
"Uh. Auntie Gee isn't feeling too well so she went for a walk." I kind of lie," You hungry?"
He frowns and nods his head.
"Can you make the fried plantains like how Auntie Gee makes them?" He asks.
Shxt. I can't make them junks. Last time I tried, I almost burned down the house. Thankfully, Tracie was there to help me clean up and Genevieve wasn't there to laugh in my face.
"I'll try. I can't make any promises."
Just then, Genevieve comes walking down the hallway, saving my life. She smiles warmly and opens her arms to Caleb. He runs to her and they clasps in a hug.
"How's my favorite step-son doing?" She asks.
"Good...Auntie Gee, can you make fried plantains for me? Daddy was gonna make them, but since you're here..."
Genevieve smirks at me and says," Of course I'll make them. And, I'll make griyo and pickles too."
He cheers and runs to the kitchen. Genevieve and I stand 30 feet from each other in silence.
"I'll make you some too...if you want." She says while pressing some of the keys on the grand piano.
"Yeah. I'd like that." I respond.
She glances at me once more before heading into the kitchen. I sit at the grand piano and practice my scales. I'm a little rusty.
"Daddy!" Caleb yells.
"I'm coming!" I respond.
I stop practicing and head to the kitchen.
