ELIANA AND NICK SIT IN SILENCE, nick still reeling from the newfound information coming from eliana. "what do you mean someone wanted you dead?"
"i didn't understand at first but once we settle into our new place, my mom started explaining everything to me. the reason why we left and why we couldn't come back. i wanted so badly to reach out but i couldn't because my mom destroyed my phone." eliana says, still trying to maintain her composure.
"wow that's a lot eliana. i'm so sorry you went through that." nick says, reaching across the dining room table to hold her hand.
eliana knew that an apology from nick wasn't necessary, considering he did nothing wrong but overall, it was still nice to hear. "yeah we ended up in spain. i didn't go to school or have friends, i was lonely all of the time. i resorted to writing songs and singing in my spare time."
"that's amazing. you always loved to sing when we were kids. but why spain?" nick says, remembering the little shows her and him would put on for their parents.
"i don't know. my mom booked the first flight she could find and i guess it was the farthest place she could find last minute." eliana says, realizing her statement was more sad than she thought.
"so do matt and chris know?" she was truly curious, even though she felt a bit bad about asking.
"no i had seen you at the park but told them it wasn't you. i wanted to find things out myself before they got involved. if you want, you and your mom could come over for dinner tomorrow night. i know my parents miss you." nick said, deep sincerity ringing in his voice.
"i'll talk to my mom about it when she gets home." eliana was nervous because she knew her mom would jump at the opportunity to see her best friend again.
"well i have to go but please let me know. here's my number." nick and eliana enveloped into a hug, one you would think it was the last time they could. she had missed his hugs so much that uncontrollable sobs came from her.
"im sorry i got tears on your shirt." eliana says, wiping the tears from her eyes.
nick laughed at her statement, "i missed this and you ellie, goodnight."
after saying goodnight, eliana headed up to her room. exhausted from the day, she fell into a deep sleep.
the next morning, she was awoken, once again, by the bright sun seeping through her thin white curtains. she had thought about what nick said and decided it was best to face the others.
"good morning, bug. sorry i didn't come home in time last night, they had me on more cases. they gave me today off." eliana knew her mom's work load was going to be busy, considering she was a lawyer. "it's okay momma. so nick found out we are back and we talked. he invited us over for dinner tonight."
"i'd love to. text him and see what time." her mom, kathy, said without hesitation. eliana expected this but the nerves still didn't stop.
"i will, im going back up to clean up my room a bit and lay down for a nap." she kissed her mom's cheek and went upstairs. following up on her word, she cleaned her room. opening up her suitcase, she found a letter she wrote to chris 6 months after she left.
Dear Chris,
I don't know if you'll ever see this letter but I figured I would write it anyways. I'm sure you're so confused on why you haven't seen or heard from me and I promise one day I will explain it all. Just know, I miss you dearly. There hasn't been a day that goes by that I haven't thought about you. These past 6 months have been the worst without you. There's nothing I'd love more than to just get on a plane home and show up at your door but unfortunately, I can't.
I saw something today that reminded me of us. There was this couple that was having a picnic in this park, both of them looked so in love. They actually stopped me and asked me to take a picture of them and of course, I did. They were telling me that they had been trying for a baby and finally got their wish. I always knew how much you wanted to be a dad one day. It brought tears to my eyes and my mind was playing tricks on me because I swear when I looked at them, they were us.
Anyways, just know this isn't something I wanted. I would do anything for you and knowing I'm the cause of your pain, kills me inside. Trust when I say, I'm hurting just the same, if not a little bit more. I could go on and on forever but I love you, Mi Amor and I hope to see you again.

upon reading the letter, eliana was in tears. 'mi amor' was something she called chris when they were together and knowing she couldn't call him that anymore, was devastating.
once she was done cleaning her room, she folded up the letter and kept it on her desk.
