Things went really well for me over the next week. I had settled back into the team and although we had only managed to win one out of our last five games, we all seemed to work together well.
Rids and I were still going strong, despite the whole, 'long-distance' thing, and I couldn't be happier. Rids was perfect. I've had a few really shitty boyfriends before, so this was nice. Although, lately, Rids has been a little distant, but I'm sure it was just because he has a lot of games that he needs to focus on.
The one thing that was off was that lately, Connor's been acting a little strange. He started to act more reserved around me, only speaking when necessary, and things like that. I had no idea what was going on, as he was the same person he normally was with everyone else. I was starting to worry that maybe I had said or done something to offend him, that was until I overheard Connor having a conversation with Kevin that I probably shouldn't have heard.
We had just come back from a double-header on the road, but since the Sens had a two day break, Timmy and Rids decided to come pay me a visit. We had spent the whole day together, as for some reason, we didn't have a practice before our next game tomorrow, and simply hung out until the two of them had to leave for the airport.
After I had dropped the guys off and said goodbye to them, I headed back to mine and Connor's apartment. As I was walking down the hall, I heard some muffled voices coming from Kevin and Alex's place. I didn't think much of it at first, thinking that Connor had just decided to hang out with them while I was away. That was until I heard my name from behind the door.
"- Connor, dude! You have to tell Sophie how you feel at some point." I hear Kevin exasperate. "If you never tell her, she'll never know, and you definitely won't stand a chance then."
"Kevin, do I have to remind you that she is currently dating someone?" Connor pointed out. "And besides, she's like my best friend. If we even did ever date, what would happen if we broke up? We kind of play on the same team, so it would be really awkward."
"Connor, you're thinking too far ahead. Just tell her how you feel, and see how it goes."
"Kev, it's not that simple." Connor sighed.
"I think it is, Connor." Kevin argued. "I've seen the way she's looked at you in the entirety that I've known her, and you may not see it, he'll, I don't even think she sees it, but there is definitely something more than friends in the way she looks at you. Just tell her, and see how it goes."
I stopped listening in after that. I had already heard too much.
Connor likes me?I like Connor?
But I have a boyfriend?
I couldn't do that to Rids.
All of these thoughts swirled through my head, making me dizzy. I needed to sleep. I walked away from the door, like I should've done in the first place, and returned back to my apartment.
I walked inside and collapsed on the couch with my head in my hands, trying to process everything I had just heard. Unfortunately I didn't have very long to think, as Connor walked through the door almost a second later, making me internally groan.
"Hey, Soph," Connor greeted, a smile on his face. Now, after what I had heard, I didn't know if the smile was just because he was happy to see me, or if it was because of something else. "How was your day with Stützle and Greig?"
