November 5th, 2023. 10:00 AM.

We didn't have practice today at all, which meant that I could finally sleep in for the first day of my NHL career.

I had exited my bathroom and made my way into the main living space, prepared to make breakfast for Connor and I as usual, but was shocked to see Connor already up, cooking.

"What is all of this?" I asked, shocked, sitting down on one of the stools in front of the peninsula.

"Well, since you've always cooked for the two of us, I figured that I'd give it a try." Connor shrugged, pouring some pancake patter onto the griddle.

"Wait, that's so sweet, thank you." I said, smiling.

"Yeah, of course," Connor replied. "So, you excited to see Jack and Luke today?"

"Hundred percent." I answered. "Although, I don't know if Jack's coming, as he injured himself on Friday against St. Louis."

"Oh, that's too bad."

"Yeah, well, that's hockey," I shrugged. "I called him before the game, and he said that he was fine, just recovering. Also he said that his shoulder hurt like hell."

"You excited for practice today?" Connor asked me.

"Yeah, but I wish it wasn't so early. People need their sleep!" I complained.

"I hear ya. I wonder if-"

"Connor!" I exclaimed, cutting him off, pointing behind him where the pancake that was on the griddle was burning.

"Shit." Connor swore, grabbing a spatula and tossing the now burnt pancake into the trash. "Well, there goes my attempt at trying to make you breakfast."

"I never would've thought that the Connor Bedard couldn't cook." I teased.

"Oh shut up and help me, please." Connor pleads, making me laugh.

"I got this" I chuckled, taking over.

After Connor's failed attempt at making breakfast, I had successfully managed to cook the rest of the batter, the two of us even inviting Alex and Kevin over to help us eat all of the pancakes, as we knew that we couldn't eat all of them ourselves.

"Wow." Alex said as soon as he had stepped into our apartment. "I didn't think this place would be so neat."

"Thanks man..." Connor replied sarcastically.

"Hey!" I cut in, laughing slightly. "I do most of the cleaning here! You usually just sit on the couch and watch tv."

"Whatever." Connor replied, rolling his eyes, giving me a playful shove.

"So, where are these pancakes that we were promised?" Kevin asked, rubbing his hands together and licking his lips.

"Right here," I said, taking the plate of pancakes out of the oven and setting it down on the dining room table. "Eat as many as you want."

I was waiting in the airport for the Devils' plane to land.

I was looking around for any sign of Luke, when someone wrapped their arms around me and picked me up, spinning me around.

"Luke! Put me down!" I giggled.

"I've missed you, Soph," Luke said, hugging me properly as soon as he had put me down.

"I missed you too, Luke."

"How's life in Chicago?" Luke asked me, letting go.

"It's going okay." I replied. "It took a little while, but I think I'm finally settling in."
