Kathryn wakes up half-expecting everything to be a dream. A good one, but a dream all the same. She opens her eyes, and her face is on her yellow pillow, she's lying in bed, and the sun is up in the sky. Her room hasn't been touched. Cleaned, yes. Like they were just waiting for her to come back. And she is, back.
JJ apparently left before she woke up, and she gathers that he really did miss sneaking in and out of her room. She doesn't mind, just figures that he has things he wants to check out on the island, too. Kathryn had everything she needed at the Palace, for now. That includes a text telling her that Big John is alive, but you know what? She's surprisingly not, well, surprised. At this point, if Edward can come back, so can Big John.
She comes down the stairs with a grin, already dressed and showered. She's wearing a copper red blouse opened and tucked in one of her jean skirts, her old pair of Mary Janes that she shares with Billy on.
And when she walks in the kitchen, she gets to smile at Edward. "Hi dad."
Henry perks up, only to watch as his brother smiles back at his daughter. "Hey, Kitten. Sleep well?"
She nods, happier than ever. In fact, even with JJ, Henry isn't sure he's seen her this happy. There was that time she came asking for the keys to his truck. Which she then crashed. But oh, well. She's back, so he's not sure he can complain.
"Yeah," she answers her dad, sitting down in front of Billy. "Anyone seen JJ this morning?"
Max, who's an even earlier bird than Kathryn, nods as he comes to the table with pancakes. "He told me he'd go home, for a bit." He sits down. "Which I thought was weird, but I didn't feel like the right person to tell him."
She frowns to herself. Sure, it was a bit weird, like Max put it, that JJ would go back to his own home and not the Château, but he's always had that urge to make this house his, as if it would undo everything his father did, and Kathryn wasn't going to judge him for it.
She would, however, hold him through it.
"Can I get some to go?" she asks them, but mostly her dad, gesturing to the pancakes. "I'm just going to check if he's okay."
