Lights. Camera. Action.
All across the nation, screens began broadcasting the same image of the genius with white hairs always clad in his green and white striped hat.
Many saw these unscheduled broadcasts as the advent of major event regarding Vanguard. Today was no different.
Ryuzaki smiled.
"Yo, yo, how're you doing Japan? You're favourite super genius is back!"
Inu and Maverick, stuck behind the scenes doing the camera duties Ryuzaki forced upon them, visibly cringed at what he regarded himself as.
"And this time, I'm not bringing you a third reboot! Man, we'd be so irresponsible if we rebooted the game after three to four years of overglorified nostalgia pandering, wouldn't we? Maybe that's why my request for a Zanbaku encounter keep getting sent back..."
The head of security waved his hand above the cameras to get Ryuzaki's attention.
"Oh, right, they're doing that new Shojodoji who will be totally sick and rad and not a bozo. Anyway!"
Ryuzaki clapped his hands.
"One year ago, when the first cherry blossoms bloomed in spring, a new era of Vanguard began. Standard, D, call it whatever you want. Vanguard is Vanguard, and Vanguard is sick! However... With every new era, you must iron out the kinks. Give people their roles, so to say. This era has been the exception. The dust from when this new era stormed into our lives is nowhere near being set! Lovers of Vanguard all around the world gather across the web to attribute points and titles to their favourite fighters, in what is a true recreation of the Sengoku Period. There is no shogun, only daimyos everywhere you look! No, scratch the Sengoku analogy. This is a truly godless era!"
Ryuzaki got suddenly serious, like he had dropped the act of overblown MC.
"But gods are lame. Stupid, childish, whiny, what have you. Do we really need gods? No. Ever since the human being first crawled out of the primordial ocean, we have been in a constant fight to go beyond even the gods! So don't settle for being some god of this new era. This event will end all those wannabe gods and give way to the people who are truly determined to fight tooth and nail until they are the ones sitting in the chair of victory!"
Inu deadpanned. He didn't like the chair bit.
"And it's name will be... Ragnarøk."
A map of Japan appeared behind Ryuzaki.
"Within two weeks, the First Winter Stage, a series of tournaments, will happen all across Japan, to determine what teams will be able to compete in the second stage of Ragnarøk. Afterall, Ragnarøk came after three winters, so you can't just go to the main event right away. But you may now ask: What rests at the end of Ragnarøk? Well... Do you care? You're all fighters who want to carve your name into the history of Vanguard. And event like Ragnarøk will do just that. The rules of the First Winter Stage are simple. It's your usual team tournament. But there's a catch, of course. Information about the winners of each First Winter tournament will be heavily protected. You can keep following your faves, but give up on knowing who you'll fight on the Second Winter Stage. What is Vanguard without a little intrigue, right? But I'll balance things."
Ryuzaki extended his right hand, and a white card appeared above it.
"By Ragnarøk's side stand seven warriors who fight for and against fate. Miracles. Zero. Taboo. Ever-changing. Guiding Star. Time. Unparalleled. These seven warriors claim an unique title, and with it, a skill never seen before. And they're name is..."
Ryuzaki closed his hand, and the star exploded into seven lights who flew around him. Two yellow lights, one purple, one gray, one green, one pink and one red.
