Cocoons on a Wall

-Yamato-

I got sent out on a fetch quest.

"I'm sorry?" I asked.

"There is something that I need you to pick up," Yukio said.

"Why?" I asked.

"You barely do anything to help us," he said.

"I'm killing the bastards who put us through hell," I said.

"Anything legal," Yukio said. I rolled my eyes.

"Whatever," I muttered.

"Look, it's not going to take you a long time. Just down to where you need to go, pick it up, and come back here. That's it," he said. "Can you at least do that?" I threw down my manga.

"Anything to shut you up," I said. Yukio sighed and rubbed his forehead.

"Why do I bother?" he asked.

"I said I was going to do it," I said. "Geez." I was about to head out the door.

"Yamato, wait!" Yukio shouted. I turned my head, frowning.

"What?" I asked. He handed me a piece of paper.

"Take this," Yukio said. I snapped it out of his hand and vanished.

Why the hell am I here? I walked as I looked over my shoulder. I'm starting to see what the problem was. The others said that it felt like something or someone was following them. Right off the bat, I felt it too.

"Nice try!" I shouted. "You think you can scare me? Do better than that! I dare you!" I looked at the paper in my hand. I narrowed my eyes as I tried to read it. What the hell? His handwriting is awful. It took about a couple of minutes before I could make out what it said. It looked like I was supposed to go down some hidden neighborhood... halfway across the city?

Okay what the hell is this?

That's the best I can do for now. I would have told you if you hadn't rushed out the door.

What the hell are you having me look for?

You'll know when you see it. Now get going!

"Fine, fine." I began walking down the street again. He wasn't going to watch me closely, was he? I was going to have to learn how to block him out.

It's quiet out here. Too quiet. I don't like it. Hello? Anyone out here? I took a look around. I frowned to myself. Might as well get this over with.

It took me about ten minutes to get across town. Nothing some shortcuts couldn't fix. I just wanted to get on with this. What the hell was Yukio sending me out here for? I looked at the paper again.

Suddenly, I stopped in my tracks. Something inside of me told me to look up. I lifted my head.

There had to be hundreds of them. Boxes with windows and roofs hung off the side of an apartment wall. I had no idea what I was looking at.

"What the hell?" Have they always been there like that? How were these even made? I wasn't going crazy, was I? I paused. Wait... Did something just... move... in one of the windows? What the fuck?!

Something wrong?

I about jumped. Don't do that! What? Are you checking up on me now?

You seemed to be stalling there. Is something wrong?

I shook my head. "No. Just thought I saw something weird. Where am I supposed to go again?"

Just turn right and go down the alleyway. You can't miss it.

"Right..." I took one more look above me.

"Damn, that is creepy-looking," I said to myself. I forced myself to keep walking. The sooner I get this shit done the better. Even that feeling of being followed did little to get this fool's errand of a task finished.
