Apart from ordering groceries to the house, Xavier seemed to avoid me altogether. I found a note on the door to one room saying I can stay there, so I spent most of my days doing just that. I cooked for myself three times a day, I showered every evening, I found a few books that I've been reading in my free time, I managed to understand how to play TV and radio, I've learned some songs that I've been singing while cooking, but I haven't seen Xavier for over a week now. I heard doors opening and closing, but he's been like a ghost. I was dying of boredom, but couldn't bring myself to ask him what was up. I mean, he's probably upset about me saying all that stuff about me not being a pet, but he needed to understand. I'm not a thing to be purchased. I'm a person.
On the tenth day of this silent treatment, I was tidying up the house, when I heard a knock on the door. I was prepared to ignore it as usually it's someone, who has business with Xavier, but when a minute passed and he didn't answer the door, I went there and in my best capabilities, opened them without stepping through.
"Grocery delivery." A young boy said, giving me something to sign.
I looked at his hands still outside the house and cleared my throat. How am I supposed to get it without being able to reach through the door?
"Would you be so kind as to help me get them in the kitchen?" I waved to the bags on the ground. "I'd sign there."
He weirdly looked at me but shrugged his shoulders and went after me. He wasn't surprised about my ears, so I assumed that he was some kind of supernatural, but I couldn't pick up a scent. I signed his tablet, but he didn't move to leave.
"Do you want a glass of water?" I asked politely, getting just a tad bit uncomfortable.
"Do you live here alone?" He raised his eyebrow, looking around.
"Mostly." I nodded, patting myself on the head for such a clever answer.
It was like the delivery boy was trying to hear something when suddenly he grabbed a knife and attacked me. I screamed and fell to the ground grabbing his wrists to stop the knife from reaching me as he was struggling to pin me down with his legs.
"Stop... moving." He breathed out angrily.
I don't know why I closed my eyes, but abruptly I felt his weight disappearing and some warm liquid dripping on my face.
"Don't get any in your mouth." I heard Xavier's voice and a loud thud next to me.
I opened my eyes and his face was covered in fresh blood. I quickly glanced at the thing next to me and it was the same delivery boy, only now he was bleeding out and twitching with a hole in his neck.
"He's dying," I stated in shock.
"Yeah, he's not very tasty. Do you want to save him?" Xavier took a hand towel and wiped down his face.
Boy's eyes were looking at me with mixed emotions and I didn't even realize how I picked up the knife, sliced my palm, and put my blood on his injury.
"Oh. You do." Xavi sounded surprised.
I let my blood do the magic of healing the wound and I even poured a few drops in his mouth to help with hypovolemic shock. The boy seemed to pass out in fear. Xavier handed me another towel to cover my palm and I stood up from the ground, looking at the thing that tried to attack me just a second ago.
"I'll be in my room then," Vampire said, turning around on his heel.
"Wait." I grabbed his elbow.
Xavier turned back to face me and I could see his eyes had blackened. It took me a second to realize it was a reaction to the scent of my blood. My eyes scanned his face, I gulped but came closer trying to not be afraid. He squinted his eyes and they ran back and forth from my palm to my face.
