Before we went for dinner, Xavier decided to stop by the clothes store and picked me a few outfits. I was taken aback that he asked what I'd prefer and didn't buy the opposite of what I told him. He did seem in a really good mood and I tried my best to keep it that way. I might have been glamoured to behave, but I don't think I was being forced to act nice. I genuinely wanted to act nicely. Maybe it was still his blood in my system that made me so calm around a vampire. One thing I didn't like was when we were still at the store and he told the assistant to throw away my current clothes while I was trying on a summer dress. He left me in it claiming that a vampire of his status shouldn't be seen with a pet looking like a homeless kitten. That almost made me hit him. But I didn't. I swallowed my pride for an opportunity to stay outside. And I couldn't complain that the dress wasn't nice. It had a skit on the side for my tail to freely roam, and it had strips instead of sleeves, but since it was warm outside I didn't mind. It was also a warm green color that somehow brightened my autumn hair.
I had to admit, wearing a new dress made me compose myself better. I could feel myself standing proudly, shoulders back and chin straight, even though I still was seen only as a pet of a vampire. I had the impression that Xavier was well known because everyone seemed to want to talk to him or at least greet him.
"Who are you exactly?" I asked when we sat down in a car after shopping.
"I thought that to you I was a vampire, who almost killed you twice." He raised his eyebrow, without looking away from his phone.
"I mean, yes, but who are you to them?" I've asked reluctantly.
Xavier didn't reply for some time as he was quickly tapping on his phone. My words didn't seem to bother him, so I relaxed a bit until he put the device down and looked me in the eyes with the devilish smile on his face.
"Wouldn't you like to know, foxie?"
"That's why I asked." I cleared my throat trying to keep my eyes focused on his and not on his smile.
He quickly glanced at my lips and then turned away to turn the engine on. That smile of his didn't disappear and I could have bet that it was because my cheeks were bright red. Damn his blood.
We were driving through the city for another ten minutes while my stomach was singing loudly to the whole salon. When he stopped by the restaurant, a valet practically ran to open his door for him. That made me frown a little bit as I was getting more and more curious as to who this person was. The young boy noticed me sitting in the passenger's seat and after getting the car keys, came to open the door for me as well. We looked at each other surprised and shocked. His eyes went up to my head to stare at my ears while I was scanning him to see any supernatural quality.
"Who are you?" We both whispered at the same time.
The boy's eyes caught my tail and his eyes doubled in size. I quickly hid it in my dress and hurried up to Xavier still looking back at the boy. He sat in the driver's seat and only then did I return my attention to the vampire who was watching the scene quite amused.
"Is he... human?" I asked in a shocked manner.
"Yes, he is. I believe most of them will be."
I looked around as I was led inside and got strange gazes from everyone that we passed. They all looked at Xavier ready to listen to his whim, but as soon as they saw me, they stopped what they were doing and kept staring until something distracted them.
I felt like an abomination. I know supernaturals like vampires or werewolfs, faeries were greatly integrated in the society, but my kind was a mythical creature, we looked differently from humans and we didn't enjoy their judgment of our looks.
