Francis and Elliot were walking by a nearby pond closer to Francis' house and Francis asked, "You hear about the commotion between Hamilton v. Jefferson?" "How could I not when that all my dad talks about?" he said sarcastically.

"Jefferson got an offer from Napoleon because he's desperate for money...offering us a whole ton of land." Francis told him, "I heard. He accepted it even if it's not written he could do that in the Constitution." Elliot said slipping his hands in his pocket. "I mean it's great for the whole country so I suppose it's okay."

"Anyways aren't you supposed to be home?" Francis asked. "I don't feel like having to go home and have my sister barge in my room asking about the latest politics." he said rolling his eyes a bit. "Anne cares about that? I thought your parents said she's not going to school but follow some Republican motherhood when she grows up." "Oh that's what they want. She doesn't." Elliot explained. "She's like 13 now isn't she.
"Mhm."
"You seem like you always hate anytime I bring up your sister."
"Because, I leave my house to avoid her asking me things or telling me how her life is unfair." Elliot asked picking up a rock from the floor. "How many times do I have to explain politics—The Louisiana purchase was purchased by the US from France in 1803 under Jefferson. Florida was acquired in 1819 because American settlers rebelled against the Spanish and in 1819 the Spanish agreed to cede Florida to the US with the Adam-Onis Treaty and was admitted into the
Union in 1845. Oh and can't forget! Texas became its own republic in 1836 after rebelling from Mexico but became part of the US 1845" He said all in a sarcastic tone as if he mocking the things he was to explain.

"It's boring explaining it to someone who doesn't even really understand and I can't explain it properly to her anyways." he threw the rock into the pond and Francis just watched. "She's probably just curious you know." "I know."

"Also...Remember Mercy?" Francis said out of the blue and Elliot froze and looked at him since he hadn't heard her name in years. "She sent me a message." "Huh-?" he said in shock. "You're...not gonna like what she has to say." Francis said.

He pulled the message from his pocket and said,

Hey Francis! I hope this message meet you. If it does please share it with Elliot would you? I do hope you two haven't forgotten about me but I live in New York. The last few years have been absolutely crazy. I do hope your families don't own slaves because up here it's not allowed and it's just morally wrong you know! My family use to be federalists and now we're part of the Whigs! I hope you guys are too!" Also aren't you glad the Mexican War is finally over? My father said the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 ended it andddd ceded California to us! Oh and the US bought New Mexico and Utah. Also not sure what my father meant but he said Gadsden Purchase but he said something about transcontinental railroad....hopefully that means we can see each other again!" -Mercy

Elliot didn't say anything since her political views were completely different. "I guess growing up in the South and North must be way different." Francis said to break the silence. "Mhm...and I don't get how she says slavery is wrong. It's a positive good."

The two of them continued to walk and a certain conversation came up, "Hey what do you want to do when you grow up?" Francis asked. "Me? Don't really have much of a choice now do I—I'll just follow my father." "Well-if you did have a choice."

"Hm...I don't know." He said brushing his fingers through his hair. "President? Supreme Court judge-?" "Absolutely not. The supreme court is just an increase in federal power over the states. And for president...I don't think I'd want that responsibility." Francis was about to speak but Elliot added first, "but it doesn't matter. Unless some dramatic change happens in stuck doing what my father does."

That night Elliot went back to his house rather exhausted from the day. He noticed that no one was awake so he shut the door quietly and walked into the kitchen and noticed a few papers on the kitchen.

He picked it up and saw it and effortlessly from the government to try to unify the economy. Something called the American system as well as well as them encouraging westward expansion.
There was another paper about immigrants about how they moved here to the US and the Know-Nothing 3rd party hated them. He was pretty sure he had a friend from school, Sam, who was party of the Know-Nothing party since he was let his Xenophobia show when it was just people coming in for a better life "Must be nice knowing how to read." Anne's voice said from the stairs. He put the paper down. "It's 1 A.M., go to sleep." "I was until I heard someone open the door." she responded.

"Must be nice having what we freedom you want all because you a man." he didn't say anything but just looked at her on the stairs for a few moments and sighed. "Go to sleep, Anne."

"You know what. I hope war breaks out in the near future and you get drafted and shot in the military." she said upset since she hated her truly because of how he was the favorite some because he was a man. Elliot looked at her and glanced down for a moment then just walked to the stairs and pushed her out the way and she said, "Hey—don't-!" "Leave me alone." he said ignoring her and continuing to walk up the stairs.
