Everyone's been talking about Manifest Destiny and how it's a god given American right to move west and expand.

Polk called for the expansion of land, Texas California and Oregon, "54-40 of Fight!" Was his slogan.

"What—you're leaving?!" Elliot asked in shock staring at one of his friends from school, "My family is going to California to hope to find some gold. You know—strike it rich."

"You have Francis and so many other friends from school—you'll be fine."  "Yeah I suppose. Well I wish you good luck out in the West. Do stay alive."

Little did he know what was the last time he'd see his friend. His family followed the Oregon Trail and in fact stayed off into the mountains with a group where they all were left to die to the environment and canabalism.

In the North, Mercy was loving a fairly wonderful life. High industrial cities were everywhere with no slavery and on the other hand we see Elliot's family in the South who still use agriculture and slavery.

In 1820 everyone was interested in whether Missouri will become a slave state or free. "Why are they all always arguing over slavery so much..." "Because the damn northerners want free states but slavery is simply a positive good." Said his father.

"Well there's nothing to do but see what happens." Says his mother and in 1820 that was decided. Missouri was a slave state and Main was a free state. "I guess that's fair." Elliot commented sitting at the dinner table. "Slavery is prohibited amount 36° 30' which is great because if we acquire land below that means it'll all be slave."

"Father...speaking of slavery-." Before he could say anything his father said sternly, "I do hope you haven't become like these idiotic body gets who believe slavery is bad." "No, no! I was just saying do you think it's really necessary did me to be a plantation owner-." "Don't start this nonsense yes you will. Do yoh want to go work day and night in the factories like north? Go get your limbs and skin cut off, is that what you want?!" "Huh—-No."

"The 19th century brought us plantation pavers new machines such as the cotton gin and bus your here taking it first granted wanting to go work in factories?!" "No—! I never said I wanted to work in factories." Elliot defended himself before his sister said eating her food, "He just wants to waste his life or-." "Would you shut up?!" He shouted pissed off before getting up and leaving the table but before he could his father got up as well and pulled him back and said, "You don't walk out the table like that. Tomorrow you're spending the entire day with me watching and making sure the slaves work. You will like being a plantation owner." He didn't looked at him when his father spoke to him but looked at the floor because he didn't mean any of that he was just wondering if there was another option.

A few days later a book called Uncle Tom's Cabin came out that exposed his slaves really was and Elliot's father was upset because he was afraid this meant they might get rid of slavery in the South. "Hey at least they have the Fugitive Slave  so if any escape the northerners would have to return our slaves." His mother said trying to look on the bright side of things. After all it was a southerner's perspective. Without saying anything he walked outside onto the land that his family owned, he noticed the slaves had already been working and there was one who he'd occasionally talk to only 3 years older than him. He walked through the fields to him who was picking cotton for the family. "What are you doing out here?" he asked looking at the blonde. "Nothing in particular, Alex." Elliot said putting his hands in his pocket. "Just came to tell you—some book has been released exposing the "horrors," as they say, of slavery." Suddenly Alex looked so happy that if something would change for his life. Before Alex could speak Elliot said quickly, "Don't tell any of the other slaves because you will all get in trouble for the knowledge and so will I for telling you."
