Pushing open the heavy glass door of Jhumar Restaurant, I was invited to an aroma of goodness. The aroma was infused with multiple dishes. I glanced around the interior, where the theme was green and beige with an amazing view of the lake.
A hostess approached me. "Good evening sir, how may I help you?"
I smile. "I have a reservation booked under the name Abhimnayu Birla."
She opened her tablet and checked something. Looking back up she said, "Yes sir, I'll show you."
She led me to the table. "This is booked for you. Please have a seat. A server will help you shortly."
I took my seat, placing the bouquet of tulips on the table. My eyes went to the entrance, waiting for Akshara to arrive. We both decided to meet after work. Luckily, the door opened revealing the love of my life. Her eyes met mine. She grinned and padded towards the table. When she reached her contagious grin lit up the room, making my smile widen.
"Hey," I murmur. Standing up, I grabbed the bouquet and gave it to her. She grabbed the bouquet, mumbling a small "thank you", sniffing the tulips. I pulled out a chair for her. She sat.
"Thank you!" Her smile made my heart flutter.
"You're welcome." I sat down as well. The server came and we gave our orders.
"How was your day?" I asked.
"It went okayish. How about you?" She asked.
"It was good." I fiddled with my wristwatch. "When did you start feeling for me?"
"I... I was attracted to you when you bumped into me." Her eyes do not meet mine.
I grinned and said, "It was the same for me. I'm so happy that we are getting married. Anyways, I think we should wait and try to get to know each other before tying the knot."
"You're right. So, what do you want in a life partner and what do you expect from marriage?" She asked.
In the meantime, starters were served. We both plate our food. While making a bite, I replied, "Whatever I look for in a partner, you meet the requirements. I mean you're pretty, you're pursuing your passion in singing which many people don't do. And you earn well, you're independent, and you..." I was hesitant to say but I said it. "You remind me of my mother. Your singing is soothing. I don't know you well. But I'm sure we can get to know each other better."
I took a bite of the Sabudana Tikki. Her cheeks turned scarlet, making me admire her more. "Now you tell me what do you look for in a life partner?"
She took a bite of the pani puri and swallowing it, she said, "That's good to hear. For me, I want someone who loves me for who I am. A person who is a gentleman and has manners. Someone who shows that he wants a future for us. I hope, I really hope that person is you, Abhi."
Her words... made me admire her more.
"I hope the same," I murmured.
"What are your favourite cuisines?" She asked.
"I like cuisines all over the world. But, I like healthy foods."
"And what are you eating right now!" she prodded.
"Some days are an exception!" I said.
"Uh-huh."
"Akshu please." I pleaded.
"Okay, okay."
"What about you?" I asked.
She finished chewing her food and spoke, "I mainly like Indian cuisine. Mostly junk food. I do eat healthy though."
"Hm, hmm."
We continued chitchatting and finished dinner.
"Do you want anything else?" I ask. She says she doesn't want anything so I call the server so we can pay the bill.
The server came with the bill.
"We should split the bill!" Akshu stated.
"Okay." I pay my part and she does hers.
We both get out of our seats. Akshu grabs her purse and the bouquet. "Ready?" I ask.
"Yes." She holds my hand when I extend it. We thank the workers while stepping out. Walking to the parking lot was silent. I didn't know what to do. Should I kiss her?
We stop where her car is parked.
"So?" I say.
"The date was amazing!" she says.
"Yes, it was." I don't know what to say next.
Akshara leans forward, clearing the space between us. A soft lip touches my cheek, leaving a lingering kiss. "I love you!"
I put my arms around her waist, kissing her on the forehead. "I love you too!"
"Bye." She sits in her car.
"Bye." I close the door and she drives out of the parking lot.
