"Yes, Bade Papa," Aarohi said. "Woh... actually—"
She went silent. I need to come up with an excuse. I quickly interjected, "I wanted to talk to Aarohi about what gift I can give Kairav Jiju."
"Accha." Manish uncle turned to Aarohi. "Beta, come with me. I want to introduce you to someone."
She inhaled the last bite of the Manchurian, got up, and followed Uncle. As she walked past me, the waft of her perfume lingered in the air. It was a pleasant scent.
I pulled her plate closer and ate the pasta left on it.
"Abhimanyu, hello." I glanced at the intruder — Akshara.
"Yes, Akshara." I grabbed the napkin and wiped my hands clean. Throwing it on the plate, I turned towards her.
"I wanted to have a chat with you. Do you have time?" She said, clad in an ivory lengha with flower zardosi embroidery.
"Yes, batao, aap Saali Sahiba,"'I said and bit my tongue in realization.
"I'm sorry for cancelling the wedding before giving my reasons. I realized I did not feel anything for you. It would've been unfair if I married you. I'm sorry once again. I should've told you my reason. It would be great if you could forgive me?"
Thank goodness she didn't realize the slip-up.
"I appreciate the forgiveness, but I cannot forgive you like that. You're sorry can't change what happened. And I'm glad you cancelled the wedding. I have found someone whom I love dearly." What I said was honest— well thought out.
I thought she'd be jealous but no—she smiled.
She grinned and said, "It's okay if you don't forgive me but what you just told me lifted a huge burden of guilt off of me. I wish you all the best. I hope you both have an amazing life ahead together." Saying that she got up and left.
I got up and went to the lineup at the buffet table and filled up another plate. As I grabbed the spoon and fork, I spotted Aarohi talking to a guy.
Out of curiosity, I went closer to listen to their conversation.
AG uncle spotted me and waved to come closer. I neared them and stood beside him.
"Abhimanyu beta, meet Abhishek Geol," AG uncle said.
I extended my hand and introduced myself, "Myself Abhimanyu Birla." Abhishek shook his hands with mine and withdrew them.
