Chapter 7: Dismissed

Inventor then storms out of the room and makes his way to the nurse and doctors' room, where all the gossip happens. Doctor Greg follows him like a puppet.

3:30PM

Inventor barges into the staff room and all eyes are on him. This was new for them because Inventor had never set foot into the room and always hid away in his office.

"Afternoon, boss." They all say in unison.

"Shut up. Where is Charlie?" He bellows as all the staff point at Nurse Charlie, who is finishing up sorting out her files that are in her cabinet. Inventor then stomps up to her and she is unfazed by the action.

"Charliee." Inventor says with a sarcastic tone, preparing himself for the scene he's about to create as Nurse Charlie gives him a glare of annoyance.

"What do you want?" She asks, while closing her cabinet.

"Well... we know you didn't oversleep in the morning." Doctor Greg states from behind her as Nurse Charlie jumps, looking startled. At this point, all of the doctors and nurses were just staring at them admiring the scene.

"Startled, huh?" Doctor Greg says as he mocks Nurse Charlie. "I think the thing we tell you next will startle you more."

"Can we not do this in front of everyone?" Nurse Charlie asks, slightly red from embarrassment.

"Oh, the same way I asked you not to break up with me in front of everyone? You still did it anyways, so we're gonna do THIS in front of everyone." Doctor Greg yells as he signals Inventor to break the news.

"Pack your bags, you're fired. We told you we were too powerful for you. We also told you that this place would feel like home for you. Clearly it didn't." Inventor plainly states, a devilish smirk now appearing on his face. All of a sudden, the staff hear a voice from the back, walking towards the scene.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing?" Doctor Bob asks, breathless from rushing to the scene. "She's the most experienced nurse here. You can't just fire her. Where else will you find someone holding five degrees?"

"HEY. We make the rules here. Charlie is dismissed and there's nothing you can do about it... unless you want to be fired too." Inventor says, annoyed at Doctor Bob's sudden boldness.

"But she takes care-"

"Simply what you're NOT supposed to do here. We explicitly told everyone in this room we don't care about these idiots. Don't treat them well. What do you guys do? The exact opposite. They're not here for you guys to test how hospitable you are, they're here because they suck." Inventor says. 

"That's not true, they're here because you -" Doctor Bob says as a hand quickly covers his mouth.

"Shut it, Bob, or your tongue will be cut off." Doctor Greg says.

"Anyways, Charlie. Off you go." Inventor says as he signals for her to pack her bags. Nurse Charlie just stands there, emontionless and blank as she makes her way to her locker. Inventor and Doctor Greg just smirk at each other while the staff are in disbelief. Doctor Bob, Nurse Evelyn and Nurse Annabelle exchange worried looks as Nurse Charlie was the best of the best for them. She was like a mother to them and made sure everyone was treated equally.

"Carry on with what you're doing. Don't look at her." Doctor Greg shouts at all the staff before leaving, with Inventor behind him.

Doctor Bob then heads over to Nurse Charlie, who is on the verge of tears.

"Hey. I'll help you with that." Doctor Bob says, taking a few of Nurse Charlie's belongings and putting them in boxes.

"Thanks. I know it's sudden to ask, but will you do me a favour?" Nurse Charlie says, while handing Doctor Bob some files as he nods.
