Chapter 24: Reopening

ONE DAY IN NOVEMBER, 10AM

Today was the day where the cafe would reopen. Gabriella was very adamant about it however we may or may not have forced her to reopen it. With a bit of decoration, the place really looked like hers again.

Gabriella was Doctor Bob's sister and since we met her she'd been very kind to us. Like a sickening kind to us. I guess all of my father's victims just turn that way somehow. She testified but there was not much to it since only one question was asked to her and was objected straight away. I wondered at the time if that was even allowed. Apparently it wasn't but the judge didn't say anything which was weird.

As everyone gathered and the big ribbon was cut, a mole appeared in the crowd amidst the cheers. He stuck out like a sore thumb to us because he was pestering us the whole time in the asylum. He was alone. Did you guess who it was yet?

"Why hello there, Rose. Fancy seeing you here." Peter says to me sourly.

"You too, unfortunately. Can't I live a day without seeing your face?"

"I mean, you could be nicer about it. It's been a year, people change. Clearly you haven't, Rosalynne." He then says. Why was this guy talking down to me and why was it affecting my pride?

"Oh, Peter. Glad to see you here." Doctor Bob exclaims. It was too early to be jolly about this little guy.

"Oh. Hi." He says plainly. His eyes were facing downwards and he seemed as though he couldn't face Doctor Bob at all.

"Uhm." Doctor Bob clears his throat. "I have a surprise for you."

"You got my parents arrested. That was surprising." He says and a nervous chuckle is let out of the older man.

"So who do you live with now?" I ask out of curiosity.

"Why does it matter to you? You judged me without knowing what was going on in my life. Just because you were that sick guy's daughter doesn't mean you can try tear me down and ruin my life as much as it already is ruined. I was used by your dad and I had to act the way I did because of him."

"Rose, he's in care." Doctor Bob whispers. "He came with a social worker." Why that made me feel bad for him. Poor guy, even if he didn't let me justify myself.

"Anyways, this was the surprise. Sign this. I paid your parents a visit the other day and they agreed to it. This was not the conversation I was expecting." Doctor Bob takes out a file of papers from his backpack. I took a quick look at them and Peter's eyes widened when he saw them. The next second, his eyes were welling up with tears.

"You're... adopting me?" He asks. Doctor Bob nods.

"I'd understand if you didn't want to live with me. However, I promise you, I will take care of you properly and give you everything you need." Peter's lips curve into a smile.

"I mean, I always saw you as the father of that place and now it's becoming a reality. Of course I'll live with you. Just promise you'll never leave like my father did." With that, the papers were signed and the court would need to double check them for Doctor Bob to become a legal guardian. The day was nice for us and went smoothly.

THE SAME DAY, PRISON LIFE, 4PM, JEFF'S POV

What a wretched day. I've lost count of how long I've been here for and have already vandalised the walls with tally numbers of the days. Let's recap what has happened in the past year or so I've been here for.

In May or June, I was convicted again for assault and another murder case, which I obviously lost. I'm currently on the waiting list for a death penalty, so this is the last anyone will ever hear from me. In late August, my nephew dropped by saying how much he hated me and believed my daughter. That scumbag. His father was also arrested apparently and just like Rosalynne, he called the police on him too. I was actually going to go to pay them a visit in Korea, which is a shame because I'm locked up now and so is he. I don't know where these lawyers find all their evidence, I'm almost sure half of it is fake.

In September, my good old friend Bobby recieved his death penalty. I'm about to see him in the pits of hell too. Rest well I guess.

The food here is a different story. We recieve stale bread on a daily basis with puke looking soup and pudding with hairs. It's funny because that's what I fed everyone in the asylum I created. How the tables have turned. Sometimes I wonder if Greg even made it into prison. Maybe he's somewhere else. I don't know. All I know is I have a few days left to live then I'll die a painful death. What did I get myself into, honestly. I wonder how Rosalynne feels locking her own father up in here and roaming around freely in her little world. This is not how the Lee Family treat each other, I guess my brother and I raised them both wrong.

TIME SKIP TO A FEW DAYS LATER, 12PM

"Soo, how is he?" Olivia asks me.

"He's fine. I don't know."

Olivia had recently found a stray cat and decided to take it in. It had been a few days since she got the thing and I swear, it hated my guts. I heard my cousin handles cats well but I'm too scared to tell him about this particular cat. I also had a lot of scratch marks on my arms because of the little creature and whenever Olivia held it, it turns so nice and acts like the most fragile and devastating thing in the world.

"If that thing scratches me again, I swear, it's going back where you found it in the streets." I say, quite annoyed about getting this treatment from a literal cat.

"It just needs love and patience. You'll get used to it." Olivia says, as smiley as ever.

"Buy it another friend then."

"No- wait, that's actually a great idea. Your brain works very well Rosalynne. No wonder you were valedictorian."

"I didn't mean it-"

"No it's great. Why have one cat when you can buy two?" Olivia asks and I immediately facepalm. What is this girl on?

"And where are we going to get the money for another cat? Be glad this one was free." I say, Olivia just ignores me.

Our conversation is halted by a knock on the door. Three to be exact.

¤▪︎author's note▪︎¤

24th chapter is done. i really couldn't find time to update my story so i apologise. it was either i didn't have time or i didn't know what to write. now there's only one chapter left which i was supposed to write but didn't because of the lack of ideas. i'm sorry guys. my mind is just weird these days.

don't worry about the cliffhanger. nothing bad will happen in the next chapter. it's more of a conformation chapter and will end things off.

anyways, i hope you enjoyed the chapter. the book turned out more like a children's book than a normal one lmao. i hope i can improve in the next story, which will be published in september if things go as planned.
