After quite the day at school, Sarah and Tilly made their way back to Sarah's house to relax. It seemed they hadn't exactly had much of a chance to do that since Tilly's been back in town.
Years ago, when Tilly lived in Smallville before, it was basically routine. After school finished, they would go back to the Cushing's and read the same magazines over and over again, gossiping about anything and everything they could think of. The two would do this for hours until Lana called them for dinner. After begging for however long to stay longer, Lana and Kyle would often allow the blonde to stay the night, knowing both girls would be far happier in each other's company. But in certain cases, Kyle and Lana's resolves were stronger and Kyle would end up driving her back to her father, much to Tilly's disappointment. If they were being honest, the Cushing family were disappointed too. But they all knew she had to go home some nights.
But now, years later, it was as if the two girls easily fell back into the same routine.
Whilst Sarah was flicking through a book, Tilly was on her phone, messaging Jonathan about his brother becoming the 'new football star'. Although he was acting like it was a good thing for his brother, Tilly could tell he was hurting. Maybe it was because he was the one that usually had the football fame in the family. Maybe it was because his brother had never showed interest in the sport and now he was gaining all recognition by their coach. But for whatever reason, Tilly knew Jonathan wasn't feeling as supportive for Jordan as he's letting his family believe.
Whilst she could recognise that, she could also see that Jonathan wasn't exactly an open book about his feelings. And so, she was attempting to talk it through with him, to help him vent. But even through texts, she could tell that something was holding him back. Tilly just wanted to help him. Jonathan had become a good friend to her after all. She hasn't got a lot of those so why not try to help out, given the opportunity? If he let her, that is. But it seemed far more difficult than she bargained for.
In the midst of the girl's so called 'relaxing', there was a knock on Sarah's door.
"Come in" Sarah called and Lana entered the room with a sympathetic look on her face.
"I heard about Sean" Lana began.
Sarah looked back down at her book, "nothing travels faster than Smallville gossip"
"Honey, I'm here if you want to talk about it" Lana offered.
"I'm fine" Sarah quipped dismissively, clearly not wanting to.
Tilly took a deep breath as she put down her phone, shuffling closer to her friend, "Sarah, I know you might not want to talk about this, but to be honest, I think you should" she watched as Sarah just glanced to her from the side but made no move to speak, "alright, most of us knew Sean was an asshole. But at the end of the day, he was still your boyfriend. You have the right to feel something about your breakup"
"But I'm fine though" Sarah snapped again.
"I just can't tell anymore. Ever since last summer, I have no idea if I might lose you forever"
Tilly could see this conversation growing deeper and she could see how she didn't exactly have a place in it, with her being absent for that time. So, she made a move to get up, picking up her phone and reaching for her bag as she spoke.
"I'm gonna leave you guys to this, seems personal—"
"No, Tils, I—uh—I want you to hear all of this" Sarah sudden spoke up. When their eyes met, Tilly could see the need in her eyes for her friend to stay beside her for what would be a very emotional and difficult conversation.
Who was Tilly to deny that support to her best friend?
Dropping her bag back onto the floor, Tilly moved herself beside Sarah again, with the brunette girl grabbing hold of her hand before she began to speak.
