some sick sense of karma

Tilly wasn't exactly in the best mood today. Not only was she still mentally recovering from the events of the day prior – being kidnapped and all – but she was having to deal with Sarah, who was in a foul mood.

The main reason for her mood was Jordan being missing from most of their day's lessons. Whilst Tilly was feeling a little concerned over his lack of presence, having thought he looked fine yesterday, Sarah didn't seem to feel that same emotion towards the boy. In fact, Sarah seemed mad.

Why? Tilly wasn't exactly sure. But the number of times Jordan had not been to school since he moved to Smallville slightly outweighed the days he had actually attended in Tilly's eyes. Maybe it was just irking Sarah. Maybe she was just using that as focus rather than the events of yesterday.

The blonde girl did see Jonathan in one of her classes that morning and was ready to ask him about his brother, as well as seeing how he was. However, once class ended, Jonathan was soon lost in the crowd of students and she huffed in annoyance before continuing her day as usual.

Taking out a textbook from her locker, Tilly was focused on making sure she was bringing out the right one just as a body slid next to her.

"Where the hell is he today?" Sarah groaned.

Rolling her eyes, Tilly looked to her best friend before speaking with a tired voice, "Sarah, I'm sure he'll message you later telling you the reason. Just drop it, okay?"

"I can't just drop it, Tils!"

Tilly sighed once again, shutting her locker, just as Sarah opened hers. Over the girl's shoulder, Tilly watched as Jonathan walked into the hallway and began approaching them. Seeing that the conversation wasn't going to go well with Sarah's mood, Tilly quickly attempted to stop him. She tried to shake her head at him, even going as far to motion across her neck violently to get him to walk away. But Jonathan just sent her a confused look, approaching the two girls anyway, causing Tilly to roll her eyes once more.

It was his funeral after all.

"Yo, guys, hey" he greeted.

Sarah looked up for a second but dropped her head back down at the sight of the Kent boy as Jonthan continued, "I didn't see you guys at lunch today. Is everything—is everything alright?"

The brunette slammed her locker shut harshly at his question, finally turning to face him with a stern glare, "maybe you should tell me"

"Hey, Sarah, maybe not now" Tilly tried but Sarah ignored her, continuing to question Jonathan anyway.

"Why isn't Jordan at school today?"

"Uh, I mean, he's not really feeling well" Jonathan stuttered out, seemingly taken aback by Sarah's angered tone.

This wasn't the answer Sarah was looking for, despite Tilly not knowing what she wanted to hear. This was evident by the way Sarah gave a large eyeroll before moving to walk away from the two others, "right"

"Sarah c'mon" Tilly groaned, following after her.

Jonathan had the same idea, rushing forward to keep instep with the girl, "hey, hold on, hold on, hold on. What's going on?"

"You're lying to me" she snapped, though her voice remained somewhat nonchalant. But the underlaying venom in her tone was as clear as day. Jonathan sent another look towards Tilly over the girl's shoulder, who just sent him a pointed look back alongside a small shrug.

Of course, Tilly knew he was lying. She had learned by now that whenever he lies, he stutters quite a bit before he spits the sentence out. But for Sarah to notice him lying right now? He would have to come up with a pretty good excuse to get himself out of this one.
